I'm not completely clear on the format of .mailmap\nfiles, but the way it should appear is \"brian m. carlson\n<sandals@crustytoothpaste.net>\". The motivation was the same as in\n(94b410bba8 2013-07-12 .mailmap: Map email addresses to names)\nwhich did not talk about the whys unfortunately.\n\nThe motivation was to get a clearer picture of the git.git developer\ncommunity. If you ask how many different people actually contributed\nto git.git, it can be easily answered by counting lines in\n\n git shortlog -sne\n\nalso you would find other interesting data in such a shortlog,\nboth person related data (How much did person X contribute? It's hard\nto find&compare that if this person contributed via 5 different\nemail addresses)\n\nAnd other statistics can be learned from a well organized shortlog.\nI was reading about gits development model and how much the\ncommunity is involved compared to other projects (I must have been\nreading The cathedral and the bazaar at the time), so I wanted to find\nout the ratio between core contributors and community (those\nwho just throw a patch or two over the fence and then move on\nwith life). And specially that question got me into organizing the\n.mailmap file in the first place.\n\nI am sorry about the mistakes I made back in the time.\n\nThanks,\nStefan\n\n>\n> Here is a suggested fix; comments?\n>\n> Thanks.\n>\n> .mailmap | 4 ++--\n> 1 file changed, 2 insertions(+), 2 deletions(-)\n>\n> diff --git a/.mailmap b/.mailmap\n> index ece2951..8d42ac0 100644\n> --- a/.mailmap\n> +++ b/.mailmap\n> @@ -25,8 +25,8 @@ Ben Walton <bdwalton@gmail.com> <bwalton@artsci.utoronto.ca>\n> Benoit Sigoure <tsunanet@gmail.com> <tsuna@lrde.epita.fr>\n> Bernt Hansen <bernt@norang.ca> <bernt@alumni.uwaterloo.ca>\n> Brandon Casey <drafnel@gmail.com> <casey@nrlssc.navy.mil>\n> -brian m. carlson <sandals@crustytoothpaste.ath.cx> Brian M.
