In the end, a colleague\nhad to tell me.\n\nSome suggested improvements:\n\n\n1) Explicitly mention the word \"bug\" on the home page, or have\na page which Google will find called \"Reporting bugs\".\n\n\n2) I did eventually get to the Community page:\nhttp://git-scm.com/community\n\nAlas, when I scanned the headline \"Mailing List\" I ignored that\nwhole section because I didn't want to join a mailing list - I just\nwanted to report a bug.\n\nI'd call it maybe \"Mailing List and Bug Reporting\". Or have a \nseparate bugs section below called \"Bug Reporting\" which refers\nto the mailing list.\n\n\n3) I definitely wasn't going to subscribe to a mailing list to report\na bug (no idea why - I'm just reporting my instinct which lots of\npeople likely have). \n\nI am only doing so because I saw that I don't have to subscribe.\n\nI'm not sure how to make it clearer, but it needs to be as it is\nhighly unintuitive. These days, you have to join most email lists to\npost to them.\n\n\nThis all matters, because Git is likely losing lots of basic bugs,\nparticularly ones to do with usability for beginner users.\n\nThanks for a great tool!\n\nFrancis\n"},{"id":"251197","messageId":"20141029201756.GB27413@peff.net","threadId":"37831","inReplyTo":"20141029115857.GB33348@bat.dot-bit.org","subject":"Re: Bug reporting method too hard to find","fromName":"Jeff King","fromEmail":"peff@peff.net","sentAt":"2014-10-29T20:17:56Z","receivedAt":"2014-10-29T20:17:56Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"peff@peff.net","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/45925?v=4"},"body":"On Wed, Oct 29, 2014 at 11:58:57AM +0000, Francis Irving wrote:\n\n> I could not find out how to report a bug. I just\nopened:\n\n  https://github.com/git/git-scm.com/pull/462\n\nwhich implements most of them. Unlike development of git itself, which\nhappens on the mailing list, development of the website is centered\naround that GitHub repository; if you have further suggestions for the\nsite, they'll probably get more attention by opening an issue there.\n\n-Peff\n"}]}
