The completion and prompt scripts have been\n adjusted to work better with these old versions of bash.\n\n * In FreeBSD's and NetBSD's \"sh\", a return in a dot script in a\n function returns from the function, not only in the dot script,\n breaking \"git rebase\" on these platforms (regression introduced\n in 1.8.4-rc1).\n\n * \"git rebase -i\" and other scripted commands were feeding a\n random, data dependant error message to 'echo' and expecting it\n to come out literally.\n\n * Setting the \"submodule.<name>.path\" variable to the empty\n \"true\" caused the configuration parser to segfault.\n\n * Output from \"git log --full-diff -- <pathspec>\" looked strange\n because comparison was done with the previous ancestor that\n touched the specified <pathspec>, causing the patches for paths\n outside the pathspec to show more than the single commit has\n changed.\n\n * The auto-tag-following code in \"git fetch\" tries to reuse the\n same transport twice when the serving end does not cooperate and\n does not give tags that point to commits that are asked for as\n part of the primary transfer. Unfortunately, Git-aware transport\n helper interface is not designed to be used more than once, hence\n this did not work over smart-http transfer. Fixed.\n\n * Send a large request to read(2)/write(2) as a smaller but still\n reasonably large chunks, which would improve the latency when the\n operation needs to be killed and incidentally works around broken\n 64-bit systems that cannot take a 2GB write or read in one go.\n\n * A \".mailmap\" file that ends with an incomplete line, when read\n from a blob, was not handled properly.\n\n * The recent \"short-cut clone connectivity check\" topic broke a\n shallow repository when a fetch operation tries to auto-follow\n tags.\n\n * When send-email comes up with an error message to die with upon\n failure to start an SSL session, it tried to read the error\n string from a wrong place.\n\n * A call to xread() was used without a loop to cope with short\n read in the codepath to stream large blobs to a pack.\n\n * On platforms with fgetc() and friends defined as macros, the\n configuration parser did not compile.\n\n * New versions of MediaWiki introduced a new API for returning\n more than 500 results in response to a query, which would cause\n the MediaWiki remote helper to go into an infinite loop.\n\n * Subversion's serf access method (the only one available in\n Subversion 1.8) for http and https URLs in skelta mode tells its\n caller to open multiple files at a time, which made \"git svn\n fetch\" complain that \"Temp file with moniker 'svn_delta' already\n in use\" instead of fetching.\n\n\nAlso contains a handful of trivial code clean-ups, documentation\nupdates, updates to the test suite, etc.\n\n----------------------------------------------------------------\n\nChanges since v1.8.4 are as follows:\n\nAndreas Schwab (1):\n Documentation/git-merge.txt: fix formatting of example block\n\nBenoit Person (1):\n git-remote-mediawiki: bugfix for pages w/ >500 revisions\n\nBrandon Casey (3):\n git-completion.bash: use correct Bash/Zsh array length syntax\n t9902-completion.sh: old Bash still does not support array+=('') notation\n contrib/git-prompt.sh: handle missing 'printf -v' more gracefully\n\nJeff King (2):\n config: do not use C function names as struct members\n mailmap: handle mailmap blobs without trailing newlines\n\nJharrod LaFon (1):\n avoid segfault on submodule.*.path set to an empty \"true\"\n\nJohannes Sixt (1):\n stream_to_pack: xread does not guarantee to read all requested bytes\n\nJonathan Nieder (1):\n Git 1.8.4.1\n\nJunio C Hamano (6):\n t5802: add test for connect helper\n fetch: rename file-scope global \"transport\" to \"gtransport\"\n fetch: refactor code that prepares a transport\n fetch: refactor code that fetches leftover tags\n fetch: work around \"transport-take-over\" hack\n Start preparing for 1.8.4.1\n\nKyle J.
