Of \n> course, the clone does not finish successfully. Interestingly, when I drop the \n> '-q' option from the git clone commandline, the clone finishes correctly.\n\nAs Junio mentioned, this does seem like the issue that 05e9515\n(upload-pack: send keepalive packets during pack computation,\n2013-09-08) tries to fix. The server is quiet for a long period while\npreparing the pack, and something in the network stack thinks the\nconnection has timed out and kills it.\n\nOne way you can check this is by running:\n\n  time git clone -q git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/linux.git\n\nIf it's a network timeout, it will die consistently at some nice round\nnumber. In this case, I just ran that command twice, and it died both\ntimes at just a hair over 2 minutes.  So that is probably what is going\non.  There's no proxy on my end, so presumably there is some front-end\nreverse proxying happening on the server end, and it has a 2-minute\ntimeout.\n\nThe keepalive patch is not in any released version yet, but we have been\nrunning it in production at GitHub for a few weeks. You may want to file\na support request with the Ubuntu folks asking to pick up the patch, or\nto increase the timeouts on their proxies.\n\n-Peff\n"},{"id":"227859","messageId":"xmqqa9j9vriv.fsf@gitster.dls.corp.google.com","threadId":"34957","inReplyTo":"20130918181443.GA18821@sigill.intra.peff.net","subject":"Re: [BUG] git clone -q ends with early EOF","fromName":"Junio C Hamano","fromEmail":"gitster@pobox.com","sentAt":"2013-09-18T19:50:00Z","receivedAt":"2013-09-18T19:50:00Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"gitster@pobox.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/54884?v=4"},"body":"Jeff King <peff@peff.net> writes:\n\n> The keepalive patch is not in any released version yet, but we have been\n> running it in production at GitHub for a few weeks.\n\nThat is good to hear; I'd feel safer to bump the scheduled\ngraduation date to 'master' for the topic in that case.\n\nLike tomorrow ;-)\n"},{"id":"227864","messageId":"201309182255.41763.marex@denx.de","threadId":"34957","inReplyTo":"xmqqa9j9vriv.fsf@gitster.dls.corp.google.com","subject":"Re: [BUG] git clone -q ends with early EOF","fromName":"Marek Vasut","fromEmail":"marex@denx.de","sentAt":"2013-09-18T20:55:41Z","receivedAt":"2013-09-18T20:55:41Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"marex@denx.de","avatar":null},"body":"Hi,\n\n> Jeff King <peff@peff.net> writes:\n> > The keepalive patch is not in any released version yet, but we have been\n> > running it in production at GitHub for a few weeks.\n> \n> That is good to hear; I'd feel safer to bump the scheduled\n> graduation date to 'master' for the topic in that case.\n> \n> Like tomorrow ;-)\n\nThanks for explaining guys, I will try to poke the canonical guys with reference \nto this thread.\n\nBest regards,\nMarek Vasut\n"},{"id":"227936","messageId":"201309201558.41901.marex@denx.de","threadId":"34957","inReplyTo":"xmqqa9j9vriv.fsf@gitster.dls.corp.google.com","subject":"Re: [BUG] git clone -q ends with early EOF","fromName":"Marek Vasut","fromEmail":"marex@denx.de","sentAt":"2013-09-20T13:58:41Z","receivedAt":"2013-09-20T13:58:41Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"marex@denx.de","avatar":null},"body":"Hi,\n\n> Jeff King <peff@peff.net> writes:\n> > The keepalive patch is not in any released version yet, but we have been\n> > running it in production at GitHub for a few weeks.\n> \n> That is good to hear; I'd feel safer to bump the scheduled\n> graduation date to 'master' for the topic in that case.\n> \n> Like tomorrow ;-)\n\nI reported the issue on Ubuntu Lunchpad here [1], so I hope they will eventually \nfix it.\n\n[1] https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/git/+bug/1228148\n\nBest regards,\nMarek Vasut\n"}]}
