We shouldn't be fetching an index at all unless dumb http\nis in use. When I try to clone from the URL above, I also get shunted to\ndumb-http (and the repo on the server appears to be poorly packed).\n\nBut if I go to:\n\n  https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/git/git.git\n\nthen smart HTTP works fine. That option defaults to \"on\",\nso I suspect that kernel.org has just left it at the default.\n"}]}
