I've run into a bizarre \"this cannot happen\" problem and\nam completely mystified as to what's causing it.\n\nEssentially, the problem is that a particular git command, run as part\nof the unit tests for the project, fails reliably when executed from\nthe project's build system but works correctly when run directly from the\ncommand line or when the same unit tests are executed from the IDE).\n\nThe unit test executes the following commands (where e5KbuUvD4Ps is a\nrandom string to ensure that each invocation of the test starts from a\nblank canvas):\n\n/usr/bin/git clone --mirror --bare http://git.io7m.com/io7m-jaux.git /tmp/test-e5KbuUvD4Ps/io7m-jaux.git\n/usr/bin/git --git-dir=/tmp/test-e5KbuUvD4Ps/io7m-jaux.git fetch -v\n\nThe 'git fetch' command raises the following error:\n\nerror: Unable to find f981a2bb02c38f20c1e3a5a0fc37c2b4ef5b92ea under http://git.io7m.com/io7m-jaux.git\nCannot obtain needed object f981a2bb02c38f20c1e3a5a0fc37c2b4ef5b92ea\nerror: Fetch failed.\n\nThe f981a2bb02c38f20c1e3a5a0fc37c2b4ef5b92ea is the HEAD commit of the master\nbranch in the above repos.\n\nI can execute the fetch command from the command line (on the same clones created\nby any past invocations of the unit test) and it works correctly. I can run the unit\ntest from the IDE and it works correctly.\n\nIn desperation, I've replaced the git binary with a shell script that logs\nthe current environment and command line arguments to a file before executing\nthe real git binary and in all cases, they're completely identical.\n\nI'm out of ideas. What bizarre invisible environment pollution could possibly\nbe influencing 'git fetch' in this manner? Is there some way to get 'git fetch'\nto be more verbose?\n\nM\n"},{"id":"210506","messageId":"CALUzUxoFwpi6J3TKTaxuCjLumOkyhWFLqz6k_23X4P0xpwD26A@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"33047","inReplyTo":"20130301143940.7e31f0c2@copperhead.int.arc7.info","subject":"Re: Debugging a bizarre problem: What can influence 'git fetch'?","fromName":"Tay Ray Chuan","fromEmail":"rctay89@gmail.com","sentAt":"2013-03-02T10:32:17Z","receivedAt":"2013-03-02T10:32:17Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"rctay89@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/61553?v=4"},"body":"On Fri, Mar 1, 2013 at 10:39 PM, <git-users@io7m.com> wrote:\n> Is there some way to get 'git fetch'\n> to be more verbose?\n\nIt seems that the remote is running the 'dumb' http protocol, you\nmight want to try setting the GIT_CURL_VERBOSE environment variable\nfor more verbosity.\n\nHave you tried running git-update-server-info on the remote side?\nPerhaps a push/fetch led to packs being created so the f981a2b object\nisn't available as a loose object but in a pack but the remote still\nindicates otherwise.\n\n--\nCheers,\nRay Chuan\n"},{"id":"210509","messageId":"20130302125950.7724564e@copperhead.int.arc7.info","threadId":"33047","inReplyTo":"CALUzUxoFwpi6J3TKTaxuCjLumOkyhWFLqz6k_23X4P0xpwD26A@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re: Debugging a bizarre problem: What can influence 'git fetch'?","fromName":"","fromEmail":"git-users@io7m.com","sentAt":"2013-03-02T12:59:50Z","receivedAt":"2013-03-02T12:59:50Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"git-users@io7m.com","avatar":null},"body":"On Sat, 2 Mar 2013 18:32:17 +0800\nTay Ray Chuan <rctay89@gmail.com> wrote:\n> \n> It seems that the remote is running the 'dumb' http protocol, you\n> might want to try setting the GIT_CURL_VERBOSE environment variable\n> for more verbosity.\n> \n> Have you tried running git-update-server-info on the remote side?\n> Perhaps a push/fetch led to packs being created so the f981a2b object\n> isn't available as a loose object but in a pack but the remote still\n> indicates otherwise.\n\nHi.\n\nYes, git-update-server-info has been used on the remote but to no avail.\n\nI'll try GIT_CURL_VERBOSE.
