The fix for this in 1.8.1.2 had\n performance degradations.\n\n * Command line completion code was inadvertently made incompatible with\n older versions of bash by using a newer array notation.\n\n * Scripts to test bash completion was inherently flaky as it was\n affected by whatever random things the user may have on $PATH.\n\n * A fix was added to the build procedure to work around buggy\n versions of ccache broke the auto-generation of dependencies, which\n unfortunately is still relevant because some people use ancient\n distros.\n\n * We used to stuff \"user@\" and then append what we read from\n /etc/mailname to come up with a default e-mail ident, but a bug\n lost the \"user@\" part.\n\n * \"git am\" did not parse datestamp correctly from Hg generated patch,\n when it is run in a locale outside C (or en).\n\n * Attempt to \"branch --edit-description\" an existing branch, while\n being on a detached HEAD, errored out.\n\n * \"git cherry-pick\" did not replay a root commit to an unborn branch.\n\n * We forgot to close the file descriptor reading from \"gpg\" output,\n killing \"git log --show-signature\" on a long history.\n\n * \"git rebase --preserve-merges\" lost empty merges in recent versions\n of Git.\n\n * Rebasing the history of superproject with change in the submodule\n has been broken since v1.7.12.\n\n * A failure to push due to non-ff while on an unborn branch\n dereferenced a NULL pointer when showing an error message.\n\nAlso contains various documentation fixes.\n\n----------------------------------------------------------------\n\nChanges since v1.8.1.2 are as follows:\n\nBrandon Casey (3):\n git-completion.bash: replace zsh notation that breaks bash 3.X\n git-p4.py: support Python 2.5\n git-p4.py: support Python 2.4\n\nDmitry V.
