I have just now discovered how to see a simplified history.\n\nFor this example history where commits were added in alphabetical order:\n\nA--B--C--D--H\n       \\\n        E--F--G--I\n                \\\n                 J\n\nI do this:\n\n$ git log --graph --branches --simplify-by-decoration --source --oneline\n* 00a27e0       J\n| * 160d232     I\n|/\n| * daa5b69     H\n|/\n* 734db0c       A\n\nand similar in gitk using the View > Edit View > Simple History = 1\nThis is a great step forward for me! I am very happy with it.\n\nIs there any way to ask git log to additionally display all commits with\nmore than one child, to show where each branch diverges?\n\nSo I hope to see:\n\n* 00a27e0       J\n| * 160d232     I\n|/\n* b981ea0       G\n| * daa5b69     H\n|/\n* 546ae44       C\n* 734db0c       A\n\nI have read man git-log but I do not understand it all. If there is a way to\nachieve this then I am not seeing it.\n\nI notice that there is commit limiting by --merges and --no-merges.\nIf --merges means \"show only commits with more than one parent\", and\n--no-merges means \"show only commits with only one parent\", what I\nwant is \"show also commits with more than one child\".\n\nOr perhaps \"show only commits with more than one parent or child\".\n\nIs there a way to do this?
