For various reasons\nboth technical and political I am near certain the effort will go\nnowhere. From #cia:\n\n[17:19]\tTalad\tHi\n[17:19]\tTalad\tthe CIA bot in our channel is gone\n[17:20]\tTalad\thow to restore it ?\n[17:20]\tshadowm\t/topic\n[17:20]\tshadowm\t(Old news at this point, really.)\n[17:21]\tTalad\twhat is the problem?\n[17:21]\tAI0867\tthe server was deleted\n[17:21]\tAI0867\tthe version running on it was never checked into version control, nor was it backed up\n[17:22]\tAI0867\tin short, CIA is *gone*\n[17:22]\tAI0867\tfor a replacement, see #irker or http://www.catb.org/~esr/irker/\n[17:25]\tThe_Tick\tBearPerson: do we know if there was a backup of the database holding all the configs?\n[17:26]\tBearPerson\tThere might be one on a hard drive somewhere in my apartment, but it'd be at least 2 years old at this point\n[17:26]\tBearPerson\thaven't gotten around to digging up that box yet\n[17:26]\tThe_Tick\tmight be worth pulling the emails out and shooting everyone an email explaining the situation\n[17:27]\tThe_Tick\tso they stop coming in here asking about it\n[17:30]\tTalad\t\"the server was deleted\" <- by the owner?\n[17:32]\tTalad\tmaybe CIA was discussed/agreed with freenode staff\n[17:32]\tTalad\tand they have a copy of it?\n[17:32]\tThe_Tick\tdoubt it\n[17:33]\tTalad\tI guess they are careful about widespread bots like CIA\n[17:33]\tshadowm\tNo, freenode had nothing to do with running CIA.vc.\n[17:34]\tshadowm\tAnd the server was deleted by the hosting company, while the current owners did not have a backup plan at all.\n[17:36]\tTalad\tI see\n[17:36]\tTalad\tok, thanks\n\nOn the other hand contrib/ciabot isn't taking up a lot of space in\nyour tree, either, so there's little harm in leaving it in place.\n-- \n\t\t<a href=\"http://www.catb.org/~esr/\">Eric S.
