I have tried to\nsuggest to the people to bring up this idea on the mailing list in order to\nget this further on. Unfortunately I did not have time to do so, especially\nfor the follow-up. I have also been told it is not a good way of asking on\nIRC which surprised me a bit, but I am now bringing this up, and I try to\nalso make the follow-up. Hope it is ok.\n\nUnfortunately my time is limited so I cannot contribute with that patch\nmyself, but I think it would be a cool convenience feature. Help is\nappreciated. Hope it is ok.\n\nAt first I thought that your idea was to have an option to \"git bisect\nrun\" so that a \"git bisect reset\" is run automatically after the\nbisection is finished.\nBut I search the IRC log and found the discussion here:\n\nhttp://colabti.org/irclogger/irclogger_log/git?date=2012-09-27\n\nand I found that you said:\n\n\"there should be an option for git bisect run which executed the\n\"whatever clean command git has like git clean -fdx\"./\"\n\nI understand that, but I wonder what we should do if some people need\na \"git reset --hard\" and if some other people need other options than\n-dfx.\nWe would need both a --reset and a --clean, or perhaps even a\n--reset[=(hard|mixed|soft|merge|keep) and a --clean[=<clean-opts>].\nAnd then what if people want to clean only a subdirectory and not everything?\nAnd this does not take into account the fact that many people\nwill/should clean using \"make clean\" or \"make distclean\" or \"rake\nclean\" or something like that, so that a --clean option will not help\nthem.\n\nBest,\nChristian.\n"},{"id":"200183","messageId":"7v4nmgiqej.fsf@alter.siamese.dyndns.org","threadId":"31662","inReplyTo":"CAP8UFD21eCSzjJ3a0SxPTzzi2z4KMFr=1xE3j8fPz38AJrrJTQ@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re: Option for git bisect run to automatically clean up","fromName":"Junio C Hamano","fromEmail":"gitster@pobox.com","sentAt":"2012-09-29T19:24:04Z","receivedAt":"2012-09-29T19:24:04Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"gitster@pobox.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/54884?v=4"},"body":"Christian Couder <christian.couder@gmail.com> writes:\n\n> I understand that, but I wonder what we should do if some people\n> need a \"git reset --hard\" and if some other people need other\n> options than -dfx.\n> We would need both a --reset and a --clean, or perhaps even a\n> --reset[=(hard|mixed|soft|merge|keep) and a --clean[=<clean-opts>].\n\n> And then what if people want to clean only a subdirectory and not\n> everything? Just make the \"run\" script clean after itself.\n\nIf that is the argument, I'd buy that.\n"}]}
