The EditorConfig project consists of a file format for defining coding styles and a collection of text editor plugins that enable editors to read the file format and adhere to defined styles. EditorConfig files are easily readable and they work nicely with version control systems.\n\nEditorConfig has been used in many large and famous projects, such as Ruby, jQuery, etc. I think the Git community may also find it useful, since there are some inconsistent indentation in the source code. \n\nWhat do you think about this?\n\nBest,\nHong"},{"id":"199494","messageId":"7vmx0lhprq.fsf@alter.siamese.dyndns.org","threadId":"31602","inReplyTo":"64033A69-B5AA-461A-80B4-F143E4FC1614@hong.me","subject":"Re: Add .editorconfig file to source repository to maintain a consistent coding style","fromName":"Junio C Hamano","fromEmail":"gitster@pobox.com","sentAt":"2012-09-19T17:43:37Z","receivedAt":"2012-09-19T17:43:37Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"gitster@pobox.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/54884?v=4"},"body":"Hong Xu <dev@hong.me> writes:\n\n> EditorConfig has been used in many large and famous projects, such\n> as Ruby, jQuery, etc.\n\nI see jQuery swallowed it and has been using it for 6 months, but\nciting Ruby as an example makes you look somewhat dishonest.  As far\nas I can see, they just added one a few days ago, which means they\nhaven't had a chance to evaluate how it affects their developer's\nworkflow and possibly realize that it is bad for their project and\nrevert it, or find it very useful and give a raving blog about it.\n\nThrowing [Ruby EditorConfig] at my search engine gives mostly what\nyou wrote and not much else, so it does not help me to judge the\nmerit of using it objectively, either.\n\nI dunno.\n"}]}
