It may show\nyour ancient e-mail address, for example. If so, here is what I\nwant you to do.\n\nFirst, run \"git shortlog -e -s origin/pu\" in a clone of git.git\nsource tree and find your name. If you do not find your name listed\nmultiple times, or if you do not want them to be unified to your\nlatest address, stop here. There is nothing you need to do.\n\nOtherwise, please tell me which \"Name <addr>\" you do not want to\nsee. For example, Martin vonZ recently changed his e-mail address,\nand he appears twice in the \"shortlog -e -s\" output, like so:\n\n 70 Martin von Zweigbergk <martin.von.zweigbergk@gmail.com>\n 3 Martin von Zweigbergk <martinvonz@gmail.com>\n\nSuppose that he wants to use the latter from now on (in other words,\nhe does not want to see the longer one). I want to be told his wish\nwith the following (all on a single line, without leading indent):\n\n Martin von Zweigbergk <martinvonz@gmail.com> <martin.von.zweigbergk@gmail.com>\n\nThe format is \"Name <preferred-address> <address-you-do-not-want-to-see>\".\n\nEven though he doesn't, if he also had appeared in \"shortlog -e -s\"\noutput like this:\n\n 1 Martin von Zweigbergk <y@google.com>\n\nthat could also be mapped to his new address, with another line:\n\n Martin von Zweigbergk <martinvonz@gmail.com> <y@google.com>\n\nI'll collect responses to this message, and update the file sometime\nlate next week.\n\nThanks.\n"},{"id":"198100","messageId":"CABPQNSY2DYQSzq3PJQmeL+oheEF0FDbnas0Y3SSyKQhOhNtQOA@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"31382","inReplyTo":"7vpq69wrd8.fsf@alter.siamese.dyndns.org","subject":"Re: [RFH] .mailmap late summer cleaning","fromName":"Erik Faye-Lund","fromEmail":"kusmabite@gmail.com","sentAt":"2012-08-30T14:12:28Z","receivedAt":"2012-08-30T14:12:28Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"kusmabite@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/47073?v=4"},"body":"On Wed, Aug 29, 2012 at 7:16 PM, Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com> wrote:\n> We have the \"mailmap\" mechanism to unify entries for a person with\n> multiple e-mail addresses into one \"Name <address>\", but it seems\n> that the .mailmap file hasn't been keeping up to the changes in the\n> real world.\n>\n> Does any of you contributors who has commits in my tree want to\n> update how you appear in \"shortlog -e -s -n\" output?
