So\nfrom the perspective of keeping the vger lists spam-free, it works\nvery well. Also, from a practical point of view, most of the mailers\nwhich send HTML also tend to mangle patches, and since most of the\nvger lists are very developer centric, having users use MUA's that\nmangle patches is highly unfortunate.\n\nSo having a hard requirement has been often useful for developers who,\nsay, are unfortunate enough to work at a company that mandates the use\nof Lotus Notes, since it's a nice way to force the company to set up\nan alternate IMAP/SMTP infrastructure for developers who need to\ninteract with the Linux Kernel community. Speaking as someone who\nused to work at IBM's Linux Technology Center, let me assure you there\nare some unappreciated, but still very valid, side effects of the\ncurrent policies in force on vger.\n\nThere are other solutions to the spam problem, of course --- such as\ndiverting all of vger's mail through Postini, which is uses the same\nanti-spam technology that GMail uses, and which is pretty good. (Far\nbetter than Symantec's anti-virus filtering service, which is what\nmit.edu uses, so I've had experience with both.)\n\nBut the tin foil hat community would probably be all suspicious about\nrouting all of vger through Google's servers, even though pretty much\nall of the vger mailing lists are archived on web sites such as\nGmane.... and truth to tell, the current solution which VGER has for\nfiltering spam works pretty well, all things considered. It's rather\nunfortunate that Android-only GMail users are an unintended casualty.\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t- Ted\n"},{"id":"196629","messageId":"CAANzHtQDEcGpKNT6vBcnhpZG89JXMNH28_-iv9OtB1YF9Dc4jw@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"31201","inReplyTo":"20120807213938.GC3953@thunk.org","subject":"Re: Android Replies to Git List getting rejected","fromName":"","fromEmail":"porpen@gmail.com","sentAt":"2012-08-07T22:01:22Z","receivedAt":"2012-08-07T22:01:22Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"porpen@gmail.com","avatar":null},"body":"On 7 August 2012 17:39, Theodore Ts'o <tytso@mit.edu> wrote:\n> On Tue, Aug 07, 2012 at 05:25:02PM -0400, Eugene Sajine wrote:\n>> <rant>\n>> Don't want to accept HTML messages - fine.
