Please find the latest development snapshots\nhere:\n\n ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/patch/\n\nThe following significant changes have happened since the last stable release\nin December 2009:\n\n* Support for most features of the \"diff --git\" format, including renames and\n copies, permission changes, and symlink diffs. Binary diffs are not\n supported yet; patch will complain and skip them.\n\n* Support for double-quoted filenames in the \"diff --git\" format: when a\n filename starts with a double quote, it is interpreted as a C string\n literal. The escape sequences \\\\, \\\", \\a, \\b, \\f, \\n, \\r, \\t, \\v, and \\ooo\n (a three-digit octal number between 0 and 255) are recognized.\n\n* Patch now ignores destination file names that are absolute or that contain\n a component of \"..\". This addresses CVE-2010-4651.\n\n* Refuse to apply a normal patch to a symlink. (Previous versions of patch\n were replacing the symlink with a regular file.)\n\n* When trying to modify a read-only file, warn about the potential problem\n by default. The --read-only command line option allows to change this\n behavior.\n\n* Files that should be deleted are now deleted once the entire patch file has\n been read. This fixes a bug with numbered backup files.\n\n* When a timestamp specifies a time zone, honor that instead of assuming the\n local time zone (--set-date) or Universal Coordinated Time (--set-utc).\n\n* Support for nanosecond precision timestamps.\n\n* Many portability and bug fixes.\n\nPlease report bugs or suggestions on the <bug-patch@gnu.org> mailing list, or\nin the project's bug tracker on Savannah:\n\n http://savannah.gnu.org/projects/patch\n\nThanks,\nAndreas\n"},{"id":"196295","messageId":"7v8vdyfqa9.fsf@alter.siamese.dyndns.org","threadId":"31161","inReplyTo":"CAHpGcM+DkL_CCisCjF9m0j3NRJUNAdfL05T0cfLjLfVORQHrpw@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re: GNU patch close to next stable release (2)","fromName":"Junio C Hamano","fromEmail":"gitster@pobox.com","sentAt":"2012-08-01T17:58:06Z","receivedAt":"2012-08-01T17:58:06Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"gitster@pobox.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/54884?v=4"},"body":"Andreas Grünbacher <agruen@gnu.org> writes:\n\n> * Support for double-quoted filenames in the \"diff --git\" format: when a\n> filename starts with a double quote, it is interpreted as a C string\n> literal.
