This is a copy of a message that\nshould be changed to convince Gnome, KDE, XFCE or / and LXDE.\n\nI reported many bugs to Ubuntu.\nTo make the Ubuntu team patch them, I need to convince them that the bug is so\nimportant that they need to work on it, so it's hard.\nTo make me patch them, I need to convince Ubuntu team that the bug is important,\notherwise the patch won't be approved, which is hard, then I need to patch the\nbug, which is hard, then I need Ubuntu team to approve the code, which is hard,\nso it's triple hard.\nTo develop an app, I need to code my work, others will see my name, rate it\nhigh, install it lots, congratulate me by e-mail and recognize my work, so it's\nfun, then I need approval from the Ubuntu team to have my app in the Ubuntu\nSoftware Store, the Ubuntu team put a huge effort in the Ubuntu Software Store\nand the Ubuntu team wants more apps in the Ubuntu Software Store, so it's easy,\nthen I show the Ubuntu team that since the app's popular, the bug is important\nand according to xkcd, I'm correcting a person on the internet and that's an\nimportant task, so it's important.\n\nFirefox has add-ons that change the Firefox interface.\nFirefox has XML DOM with getElementById, insertBefore, createElement,\nsetAttribute, removeChild etc and that's how you position. add, edit and remove\nanything in Firefox.\nA Firefox add-on is easy to create and powerful to use.\nTim Berners-Lee, an England sir, created the web and leads W3C. W3C adopted\nJavascript from NETSCAPE and created XML and DOM. Think twice about whether\nJavascript, XML and DOM are a good combination, because that's genial stuff, so\nyou will have to be sure.\n\nUbuntu needs an API like Firefox's XML DOM, but in C, not Javascript.\n\nImagine the experimentation that would happen. It would be awesome, like Firefox\nis. Features that you weren't expecting would be added to Ubuntu by the others,\nif you're a programmer, you would be able to create features and if you're a\nuser, you would be able to tell programmers what features you want and others\nwant too. Maybe, Windows or Apple would copy the easy platform customization\nfrom Ubuntu which copied from Firefox and everybody would be happy.\n\nBest regards,\nPedro Bessa\n"},{"id":"191407","messageId":"CAH-tXsCJRvdiG=P5cKbR+U1qtDovhc3+sgtOFaDXKZiaNJMJsg@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"30510","inReplyTo":"loom.20120511T192427-748@post.gmane.org","subject":"Re: *IMPORTANT* to Linus Torvalds","fromName":"jaseem abid","fromEmail":"jaseemabid@gmail.com","sentAt":"2012-05-11T18:28:58Z","receivedAt":"2012-05-11T18:28:58Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"jaseemabid@gmail.com","avatar":"https://gravatar.com/avatar/8b0432c96e4d3c8a9a96c9961ee842df7b7a869744da9c25187a51a992eabd81?d=mp&s=160"},"body":"On Fri, May 11, 2012 at 11:16 PM, Pedro Bessa <pedbessa@gmail.com> wrote:\n\n> Ubuntu needs an API like Firefox's XML DOM, but in C, not Javascript.\n\nIs this the root idea of the mail?  I think you should have told about\n\n1. Why ubuntu needs an API like Firefox's XML DOM ?\n2. Why C?\n3. Why not Javascript?\n\nand not about *how hard it is to get patches accepted* in the *ubuntu\nmailing list*.\n\nAm I missing some background story? What happened recently that you\nare provoked you to send a mail like this? Can you provide with some\nlink to read more?\n\nWhat exactly do you want Mr Torvalds to do on this regard? I think\nmore importantly, you should have mentioned *why* he should be doing\nwhat you are asking him to do.\n\nFYI, there are other OS like webOS which tried UI like that of\nbrowsers with DOM and scripting APIs. Most of them failed due to\nrandom reasons. Ubuntu community is having their own reasons for doing\nparticular things. If you have a revolutionary idea, I think you will\nbe able to convince them to do that.\n\nPersonally I think this is the wrong place to convey this idea.\n\nV,r\n\nJaseem Abid\nhttp://jaseemabid.github.com\n"},{"id":"191409","messageId":"1336761372-sup-8283@nixos","threadId":"30510","inReplyTo":"loom.20120511T192427-748@post.gmane.org","subject":"Re: *IMPORTANT* to Linus Torvalds","fromName":"Marc Weber","fromEmail":"marco-oweber@gmx.de","sentAt":"2012-05-11T19:04:36Z","receivedAt":"2012-05-11T19:04:36Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"marco-oweber@gmx.de","avatar":null},"body":"Summary:\n\nrequest:\n  Dear Mr Torvalds, help me please to make Ubuntu team\n  create or approve such a patch which would implement this:\n  > Ubuntu needs an API like Firefox's XML DOM, but in C, not Javascript.\n\n  I failed at understanding more valuable information.\n\nmy reply:\n==========\ngit kernel list is unlikely to be the appropriate forum.\nTry #ubuntu channel on freenode irc or http://ubuntuforums.org/\n\nAlso refine your request. Its not understandable (yet). Talk to other\nlinux users and make them understand what you're idea is.\n\nI personally can't imagine what you're asking for because there are so\nmany things which could be mapped to DOM including filesystem, linux\nconfiguration (/proc, /sys), ...\n\nYou may want to look at \"plan 9\", they try to make everything be a \nfilesystem => http://cs-exhibitions.uni-klu.ac.at/index.php?id=214\n\"Ken and Rob thought up the idea of building everything around a single\nfile system protocol\" ...\nSo all you have to do is map the filesystem to DOM and you're done?\n\nYou should find an appropriate forum for discussing and maturing your\nidea. Those forums will also help you make it complete enough such that\naverage linux users / developers have a chance to understand what you\nreally have in mind.\n\nI feel its unlikely that Torvalds understands what you are talking about\neither without providing samples etc.\n\nIf you don't understand what I'm writing about contact me off list and\nand I'll help you find the appropriate forum and rephrase your idea\nmaking your description good enough to make others understand how you\nwant ubuntu (linux in general?) to look like instead.\n\nIf we're done with that we can write another mail to this thread telling\nwhere future discussion will take place. To speed everything up I've\nstarted a titanpad document:\n\nhttp://titanpad.com/pVtrCuSOr5\nand put some questions / comments there.\n\nYou can also add additional references to discussions at the appropriate\nplaces to that public document.\n\nMarc Weber\n"}]}
