As our Makefiles strive to offer necessary knobs to tweak from\nthe command line for platform-specific glitches, from \"Recipe included\" on\nthe subject, I think people would have expected to see something like:\n\n gmake VAR1=VAL1 \\\n VAR2=VAL2 \\\n VAR3=VAL3 ...\n\nor perhaps:\n\n cat >config.mak <<-EOF\n VAR1=VAL1\n VAR2=VAL2\n ...\n EOF\n\nand not a sequence of commands to rewrite files in-tree.\n\nOther people have built git on Solaris but probably not many people have\ndone so recently. The platform specific knobs in our Makefiles may have\nto be extended to accomodate newer version of Solaris. So the \"Recipe\"\nmay not be just the series of make variables, but needs a patch or two to\nthe Makefile to enhance the tweaks.\n\nSee 614dd90 (Makefile: SunOS 5.6 portability fix, 2010-05-14) for an\nexample of such a patch.\n\nThanks.\n"},{"id":"191209","messageId":"1336586103-sup-4584@pinkfloyd.chass.utoronto.ca","threadId":"30480","inReplyTo":"CADmdEsnSt5Do+EuJHzfGxNY6aCnGA6AF6fbEETAGpoL6p7Nuwg@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re: Compiling git on Solaris.
