I’m\nusing Git-1.7.10-preview20120409 on Windows, but the problem exists in\nprevious versions.\n\nWhen fast-exporting | fast-importing on Windows a repository with case only\nrenames, the resulting repository isn’t a copy of the initial repository.\nThis is because Windows repositories are created with core.ignorecase = true\nby default.\n\nThe included script shows the problem: it creates a repository with\nSomeFile.txt renamed to SOMEFILE.txt, then fast-export it and fast-import it\nin two different repositories, with core.ignorecase=false and\ncore.ignorecase=true. The sha-1 of the second commit in the repository with\ncore.ignorecase=true is different from the initial repository because the\nrename is ignored.\nThe situation is worse without rename detection on fast-export : the rename\nbecomes a delete.\n\nI think the configuration variable core.ignorecase should be ignored by\nfast-import, and case always taken into account in that case.\n\nKind regards,\n\nPhilippe Martens\nLead Architect\n\nMETRUM\nRue du Kiem, 163\nL-8030 Strassen\nTél : +352 26 00 87 01\nFax : +352 26 00 87 02\nGSM : +352 661 26 00 37\nEmail : philippe.martens@metrum.lu\nWeb : www.metrum.lu\n"}]}
