I’m\nusing Git-1.7.10-preview20120409 on Windows, but the problem exists in\nprevious versions.\n\n \n\nWhen fast-exporting | fast-importing on Windows a repository with case only\nrenames, the resulting repository isn’t a copy of the initial repository.\nThis is because Windows repositories are created with core.ignorecase = true\nby default.\n\n \n\nThe included script shows the problem: it creates a repository with\nSomeFile.txt renamed to SOMEFILE.txt, then fast-export it and fast-import it\nin two different repositories, with core.ignorecase=false and\ncore.ignorecase=true. The sha-1 of the second commit in the repository with\ncore.ignorecase=true is different from the initial repository because the\nrename is ignored.\n\nThe situation is worse without rename detection on fast-export : the rename\nbecomes a delete.\n\n \n\nI think the configuration variable core.ignorecase should be ignored by\nfast-import, and case always taken into account in that case.\n\n \n\nKind regards,\n\n \n\nPhilippe Martens\n\nLead Architect\n\n \n\nMETRUM\n\nRue du Kiem, 163\n\nL-8030 Strassen\n\nTél : +352 26 00 87 01\n\nFax : +352 26 00 87 02\n\nGSM : +352 661 26 00 37\n\nEmail :  <mailto:philippe.martens@metrum.lu> philippe.martens@metrum.lu\n\nWeb : www.metrum.lu\n\n \n\nP Please consider the environment before printing this e-mail.\n\n \n\n-- \n*** Please reply-to-all at all times ***\n*** (do not pretend to know who is subscribed and who is not) ***\n\n*** Please avoid top-posting. ***\n\nYou received this message because you are subscribed to the Google\nGroups \"msysGit\" group.\nTo post to this group, send email to msysgit@googlegroups.com\nTo unsubscribe from this group, send email to\nmsysgit+unsubscribe@googlegroups.com\nFor more options, visit this group at\nhttp://groups.google.com/group/msysgit?hl=en_US?hl=en\n"}]}
