foreign-vcs permanently clobbered\n\nRecently, 6f48d39 (clone: delay cloning until after remote HEAD checking,\n2012-01-16) tried to record if a remote helper needs to be called after\nparsing the remote when transport_get() is called, by overwriting the\nfield meant to store the configured remote helper name in the remote\nstructure.\n\nThis is OK when a remote represents a single remote repository, but fails\nmiserably when pushing to locations with multiple URLs, like this:\n\n    $ cat .git/config\n    [remote \"origin\"]\n        url = https://code.google.com/p/git-htmldocs/\n        url = github.com:gitster/git-htmldocs.git\n        push = refs/heads/master:refs/heads/master\n    $ git push\n\nThe second url that is supposed to use the git-over-ssh transport\nmistakenly use https:// and fails with:\n\n    error: Couldn't resolve host 'github.com:gitster' while accessing\n    github.com:gitster/git-htmldocs.git/info/refs\n    fatal: HTTP request failed\n\nThe right solution would probably be to dedicate a separate field to store\nthe detected external helper to be used, which is valid only during a\nsingle use of transport until it is disconnected, instead of overwriting\nforeign_vcs field, but in the meantime, this band-aid should suffice.\n\nSigned-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>\n\nSigned-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>\n---\n designed to override\nremote helper detection based on url. Once you have pushed over https,\nthe following urls will be over https too. Luckily no other places\nperform an operation over multiple urls like push so we're safe with\nyour bandage.\n\nWe should have another way to detect whether remote helper being used\n(comparing some function pointers like transport->connect or\ntransport->disconnect may help). But I need to think a bit about\ndelaying cloning for http(s) too even though remote helper is used.\n-- \nDuy\n"}]}
