The binding for that takes you to the first commit.\n> End to the last (oldest) commit.\n\nHi Pat,\n\nthank you, but I almost always run gitk with the '--all' parameter.\nActually, I have a function in my .bashrc for this:\n\n  # calls gitk from the top-level directory:\n  function gkup()\n  {\n      (cd \"./$(git rev-parse --show-cdup)\"; gitk --all \"$@\" &)\n  }\n\nThat's because gitk behaves odd (at least to me) when not run from the\ntop-level directory. E.g. the \"touching paths\" box won't find files in\nthe top dir if you don't prefix them with a slash. It's all relative to\nthe directory gitk was started in. To get predictable behavior, I wrote\nthis function and garnished it with '--all'.\n\nThus, my current HEAD is not always on the top of the history but\nsomewhere in between. However, typing \"HEAD\" (or \"head\" in the SHA1\nfield works for me.\n\nCheers\n    Dirk\n"},{"id":"181658","messageId":"CAOeW2eGCKxYW1TT-HPoSCO0_PsQPX5C-bcHLUy73MTd7=CsqRA@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"29237","inReplyTo":"4EF4CE80.8090502@dirk.my1.cc","subject":"Re: Gitk: shortcut to jump to the current HEAD (yellow spot)?","fromName":"Martin von Zweigbergk","fromEmail":"martin.von.zweigbergk@gmail.com","sentAt":"2011-12-24T04:22:59Z","receivedAt":"2011-12-24T04:22:59Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"martinvonz@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/891642?v=4"},"body":"2011/12/23 Dirk Süsserott <newsletter@dirk.my1.cc>:\n>\n> That's because gitk behaves odd (at least to me) when not run from the\n> top-level directory. I wouldn't have noticed because I'm so used to my \"cd $TOP &&\ngitk\". I thought it was by intention because it just behaves like \"git\nlog\": When run from subdirs it doesn't know about topdir files: Assume\nREADME.txt is in the topdir and current dir is some subdir:\n\n$ git log -- README.txt    # fails\n$ git log -- ../README.txt # works\n\nMy alias (or function) was just a helper to avoid remembering where I\nstarted gitk from.\n\nCheers,\n    Dirk\n\nBTW, Merry X-Mas to you and all others on the list :-)\n"}]}
