The current cycle is expected to end at the end of\nJanuary next month [*1*].\n\nI am not so worried about small and obvious fixes and enhancements, and\nchanges in the periphery areas. They can and will be merged as they come\nand cook long enough in 'next' without issues reported by their users. I\nexpect what have been cooking in 'next' during the feature-freeze before\nthe 1.7.8 release, other than the ones listed below, to be more or less\nready already and they should be in 'master' shortly.\n\nNow, here are the biggies that we would want to try to have in reasonable\nshape before the next release. The list may be a bit too ambitious, given\nthat this cycle overlaps with end-of-this-year/beginning-of-new-year\nholiday season in various cultures.\n\n * Credentials and keychain (Peff)\n * Pulling signed tag (me, Linus)\n * Update \"request-pull\" script with information that matters (me)\n * Revisiting threading of grep (Rene, Thomas Rast)\n * Optimization of reading hierarchical refspace lazily (Michael Haggerty)\n\nI expect the following will not make much progress without further\ndiscussion:\n\n * Signed commit (me)\n * Ignored vs Precious (Nguyen Thai Ngoc Duy)\n * Sequencer (Ram, Jonathan Nieder)\n\nI think the following are too big to be ready by the end of this cycle\n(polishing could and will continue as time permits).\n\n * Large-files\n - bulk check-in (me)\n - \"Chunked\" encoding of large files (me)\n\n\n[Reference]\n\n*1* https://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=jfgbl2mrlipp4pb6ieih0qr3so%40group.calendar.google.com&ctz=America/Los_Angeles\n"},{"id":"180315","messageId":"CACBZZX6aC-E4DxaZzzhfGnK8ovBGCq_gNG3hPU7QjfAiNb3WrA@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"29088","inReplyTo":"7vd3c2lr36.fsf@alter.siamese.dyndns.org","subject":"Re: Roadmap for 1.7.9","fromName":"Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason","fromEmail":"avarab@gmail.com","sentAt":"2011-12-05T21:24:33Z","receivedAt":"2011-12-05T21:24:33Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"avarab@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/45301?v=4"},"body":"On Mon, Dec 5, 2011 at 21:07, Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com> wrote:\n\n> Now, here are the biggies that we would want to try to have in reasonable\n> shape before the next release.\n\nI'd like to get the i18n series into 1.7.9 as well. But it's still a massive 1300 line patch,\nwhich:\n\n * Calls setlocale(LC_MESSAGES)\n * Uses an evil trick to only call setlocale(LC_CTYPE) while loading\n message catalogs\n * Might have some portability problems on more obscure OS's.\n * Has some tests I've only tested on Linux, FreeBSD and Solaris\n\nSo it might have some little surprises, and it would be nice to have\nit in master early on so we'll give it plenty of time to cook and\ndiscover any issues before 1.7.9.\n"},{"id":"180366","messageId":"CACsJy8DFe2so2gqR_DGAgNkB7J5JBqvGc6pEaxXpDhzZC82cZA@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"29088","inReplyTo":"7vd3c2lr36.fsf@alter.siamese.dyndns.org","subject":"Re: Roadmap for 1.7.9","fromName":"Nguyen Thai Ngoc Duy","fromEmail":"pclouds@gmail.com","sentAt":"2011-12-06T11:16:18Z","receivedAt":"2011-12-06T11:16:18Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"pclouds@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/720?v=4"},"body":"On Tue, Dec 6, 2011 at 3:07 AM, Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com> wrote:\n> I expect the following will not make much progress without further\n> discussion:\n>\n>  * Ignored vs Precious (Nguyen Thai Ngoc Duy)\n\nI'm working on adding --exclude-standard and --exclude-from to\nread-tree.
