I originally\nfound this bug in a bigger repository, but I isolated the culprit\nfiles into a small tarball which you can download from\nhttp://files.openspring.net/tmp/gitbug-20110809.tgz\n\nThis bug occurs on the following three configs:\nMac OS X Snow Leopard with git 1.7.4.1\nMac OS X Snow Leopard with git 1.7.5\nMac OS X Lion with git 1.7.4.4\nI could not reproduce on Ubuntu.\n\nTo reproduce, extract the tarball and try to add its content into a fresh repo:\n$ git init\nInitialized empty Git repository in /private/tmp/stemtest/.git/\n$ git add .\n$ git status\n# On branch master\n#\n# Initial commit\n#\n# Changes to be committed:\n#   (use \"git rm --cached <file>...\" to unstage)\n#\n# new file:   drupal/sites/all/modules/scf/pubnode_docbook4/xsl/docbook-xsl-1.73.2/common/olink.xsl\n# new file:   files/pubnode/ab4d8c648ef8e26312beaba802a503d1f8081bb6/README\n#\n# Untracked files:\n#   (use \"git add <file>...\" to include in what will be committed)\n#\n# files/pubnode/ab4d8c648ef8e26312beaba802a503d1f8081bb6/\n\nFrom there onwards, if I commit and do other operations, this\ndirectory will remain in the untracked files list. I'm terribly\nconfused by this bug. It seems it has to do with the paths of both\nfiles, since if I rename them, the bug does not happen. But I can't\nexplain what's going on.\n\nregards,\nSteph.\n"},{"id":"173229","messageId":"20110810025125.GA8554@sigill.intra.peff.net","threadId":"28057","inReplyTo":"CAGR+nnFM+Pr29h4POarx5rQdrTuMvtwwZLwVPZuChSDKQjLg4g@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re: Tracked files become untracked in some obscure scenario","fromName":"Jeff King","fromEmail":"peff@peff.net","sentAt":"2011-08-10T02:51:25Z","receivedAt":"2011-08-10T02:51:25Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"peff@peff.net","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/45925?v=4"},"body":"On Tue, Aug 09, 2011 at 03:59:08PM -0400, Stéphane Corlosquet wrote:\n\n> I'm encountering a very strange bug where some directory containing\n> one file becomes untracked when it should be tracked.
