A couple times,\nlike now.. I am wanting to add a file to the staging area.. and for some odd\n(odd to me now) reason, the file is as if not there. When I do:\nGovind% ls\n\n..then I see the file *is* there.. as I also know it is from my Mac OS 10.6\nfinder window.\n\nSo why does git not mention it when I do 'status'? \n\nGit seems happy for me to 'add' the file, but then refuses to show it to me\nin the 'status' listing.\nThe file in question is in the pwd, and is named 'mainline_finishes.html'.\n\nHere, please see my issue:\n\n[Govindas-iMac-2:SS_site_root] Govind% pwd\n/Users/Govind/Documents/webmastering/websites-devel./SS_site_root\n[Govindas-iMac-2:SS_site_root] Govind% ls\n[snip]\nVL_ShowMan.html-2011-05-10_late\t\t\tmainline_finishes.html\nVL_ShowMan.html-2011-05-11\t\t\tmainline_finishes.html-2011-04-29\nVL_ShowMan.html-2011-05-12\t\t\tmainline_finishes.html-2011-06-08\nVL_ShowMan.html-2011-05-17\t\t\tmainline_finishes.html-2011-06-17\nVL_ShowMan.html-2011-05-19\t\t\tmanu_autoupdate00.html\nVL_ShowMan.html-2011-06-02\t\t\tnews\n[snip]\n\n[Govindas-iMac-2:SS_site_root] Govind% git add mainline_finishes.html\n[Govindas-iMac-2:SS_site_root] Govind% git status\n# On branch Gov_SS_2011-07-16\n# Changes to be committed:\n# (use \"git reset HEAD <file>...\" to unstage)\n#\n#\tnew file: VL_ShowMan.html\n#\n# Untracked files:\n# (use \"git add <file>...\" to include in what will be committed)\n#\n[snip]\n#\tIntranet_IE/CSI_Admin.html\n#\tIntranet_IE/DealerUpdate_Approve.html\n[snip]\n#\tLunchReport_CommentToolTip.js\n#\tManuUpdate/\n#\tRepGroup_Update_Trigger.html\n[snip]\n#\tjoinus.html\n#\tmainline_finishes.html-2011-04-29\n#\tmainline_finishes.html-2011-06-08\n#\tmainline_finishes.html-2011-06-17\n#\tmanu_autoupdate00.html\n#\tmyspecsimple/\n#\tnews/\n[snip]\n \n\n^^^ *where* is 'mainline_finishes.html'?!\n\nI would sort that untracked file listing for ease of reading.. but I do not\nknow how (if it is even possible)... is there an option for 'git status -?'\nthat causes the list to sort alphabetically?
