It all began when\ngitosis stopped liking me, and whenever I tried to fetch from or push to\nmy gitosis server, it gave me a 'fatal: x does not appear to be a git\nrepo' error.\n\nSo, I decided to remove gitosis and start again afresh.  Following this\n[1] guide, I did/got the following:\n\n\n$ sudo adduser --system --shell /bin/sh --gecos 'git version control'\n--group --disabled-password --home /home/gitosis gitosis\nAdding system user `gitosis' (UID 119) ...\nAdding new group `gitosis' (GID 128) ...\nAdding new user `gitosis' (UID 119) with group `gitosis' ...\nCreating home directory `/home/gitosis' ...\n\n$ ssh-keygen -t rsa\nGenerating public/private rsa key pair.\nEnter file in which to save the key (/home/tim/.ssh/id_rsa): \nCreated directory '/home/tim/.ssh'.\nEnter passphrase (empty for no passphrase): \nEnter same passphrase again: \nYour identification has been saved in /home/tim/.ssh/id_rsa.\nYour public key has been saved in /home/tim/.ssh/id_rsa.pub.\n...\n\n$ sudo -H -u gitosis gitosis-init < /home/tim/.ssh/id_rsa.pub \nInitialized empty Git repository in\n/home/gitosis/repositories/gitosis-admin.git/\nReinitialized existing Git repository in\n/home/gitosis/repositories/gitosis-admin.git/\n\n$ git clone gitosis@overlord.imperial.fleet:gitosis-admin\nCloning into gitosis-admin...\ngitosis@overlord.imperial.fleet's password: \nPermission denied, please try again.\n\n\nOf course, it's not meant to ask me for a password, and no matter what I\ntype, it won't work anyway, as it's disabled.\n\nSo, did I miss something? I set up gitosis a few years ago and it hadn't been giving me any\nproblems.\n\n\n> If it asks for password, then it's probably a plain SSH problem. I suppose it's irrelevant anyway, as I'll be switching to\ngitolite.\n\nThanks for the advice, and sorry about the noise.\n\n\nTim\n\n-- \n() ascii ribbon campaign - against html e-mail\n/\\ www.asciiribbon.org   - against proprietary attachments\n"}]}
