I've been talking to Cyrus on IRC)\n\nIt's great that you want to translate Git into chinese. Currently Git\nis in a state where we're preparing to accept translations, but\nthere's no reason why you can't start now.\n\nWhat you can do to start now is:\n\n git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/git/git.git\n cd git\n make pot\n cd po\n msginit --locale=zh\n\nThat'l generate a template zh.po that you can translate. You can\ntranslate the text with any PO editor, e.g. Poedit:\nhttp://www.poedit.net/\n\nPlease let me know if you have any questions, or if there's anything\nthat can be improved in this process.\n\nIn particular I was thinking of using some web interface for\ntranslation, but that would probably be hard to work out with\naccounting for who did what, which would play badly with Git's signoff\npolicies.\n"},{"id":"165972","messageId":"BANLkTintJ6FsYAQ1iV1kygwOdtsFtCs3EA@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"27115","inReplyTo":"BANLkTi=29fvnLYVnsjpYXfaB20=H6D6fcg@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re: Applicatioin of contribution for Git Chinese version","fromName":"Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason","fromEmail":"avarab@gmail.com","sentAt":"2011-04-16T16:55:40Z","receivedAt":"2011-04-16T16:55:40Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"avarab@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/45301?v=4"},"body":"On Sat, Apr 16, 2011 at 18:34, Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason <avarab@gmail.com> wrote:\n\n> In particular I was thinking of using some web interface for\n> translation, but that would probably be hard to work out with\n> accounting for who did what, which would play badly with Git's signoff\n> policies.\n\nIt was clear from talking on IRC that having them use PO wouldn't get\nanywhere.\n\nSo I've created https://translations.launchpad.net/git-i18n\n\nIt has strings from git's master + the shellscript translations.\n\nI've set the translation policy to \"open\", so anyone can contribute\nthere. So here are some hints to start out.\n\nAs Ævar mentioned, we were just starting to get our act together to\naccept translations. So you are a pioneer and we will be working out\nsome of this as we go (thank you!).\n\n1. The first step, which you have already done, is to install msysgit\n (which includes a C compiler and some other useful tools). With it\n you can easily test your changes.\n\n Start MsysGit, as described here:\n https://git.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/MSysGit:InstallMSysGit\n under \"How to restart msysGit\".\n\n If you installed using the fullinstaller, initialize it by running\n\n\t/share/msysGit/initialize.sh\n\n2. Msysgit does not include a pre-compiled copy of gettext yet, but\n Erik Faye-Lund has done the necessary work. Make use of it like\n so:\n\n\tcd /\n\tgit checkout devel\n\tcd /src/gettext\n\tsh release.sh\n\n Now \"gettext --help\" should work.\n\n3. Build a translation template:\n\n\tcd /git\n\tgit checkout -t origin/master\n\tmake pot\n\tcd po\n\tmsginit --locale=zh_CN\n\n4. Start translating, at last.\n \n> That'l generate a template zh.po that you can translate. You can\n> translate the text with any PO editor, e.g. Poedit:\n> http://www.poedit.net/\n\nThat's the end of chapter 1. I am leaving how to test and publish\nyour translation and how to update when messages in git change for a\nlater mail.\n\n> Please let me know if you have any questions, or if there's anything\n> that can be improved in this process.\n\nYes.\n\nThanks, and hope that helps.\nJonathan\n"},{"id":"165993","messageId":"20110416230757.GA5606@elie","threadId":"27115","inReplyTo":"6e8d0165.486.12f608bb3de.Coremail.cyrus@drupalgate.com","subject":"Re: Re: Applicatioin of contribution for Git Chinese version","fromName":"Jonathan Nieder","fromEmail":"jrnieder@gmail.com","sentAt":"2011-04-16T23:07:57Z","receivedAt":"2011-04-16T23:07:57Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"jrnieder@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/281595?v=4"},"body":"Cyrus wrote:\n> At 2011-04-17 06:33:10，\"Jonathan Nieder\" <jrnieder@gmail.com> wrote:\n\n>> 2.
