I found the\nRestartable Clone idea from the GSoC 2008 ideas page interesting, and\nam keen on working on it. I'm a basic C/C++/Python programmer, and my\nprevious programming experience has mainly been related to maths,\nalgorithms and logic, pretty much formal-education stuff. I was taught\nbasic C in high school and I spent time in expanding to C++ and\nPython. I have coded a few applications in these languages out of my\nown whim, and have been dabbling in shell-scripting for a while. I\nhave no Open Source development experience, but I've brought myself\nupto speed with how open source communities work, and the mandatory\ntools like vcs, bugtrackers, patches, compiling from source, etc.\n\nThat said, I'd like to know if my programming knowledge will suffice\nto apply as a student for Git in GSoC. If so, I'd like to get started\non the Restartable Clone idea and start learning the necessary stuff\nand work on it :)\n\nThanks,\nPranav.\n"},{"id":"163226","messageId":"AANLkTi=bfOQ56qEc3uQCmejaxi6NYPEpJy7EQoW-P=Hx@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"26709","inReplyTo":"AANLkTikh28_8rWzv0KXk1_MTzwWSyb2-60J3im11yrFm@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re: GSoC - Contributing to Git","fromName":"Shawn Pearce","fromEmail":"spearce@spearce.org","sentAt":"2011-03-11T15:03:21Z","receivedAt":"2011-03-11T15:03:21Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"spearce@spearce.org","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/34844?v=4"},"body":"On Fri, Mar 11, 2011 at 05:24, Pranav Ravichandran <prp.1111@gmail.com> wrote:\n> I was peering over the previous years' GSoC ideas for Git, and I wish\n> to apply to work with Git in the upcoming GSoC '11. Its\ntoo difficult, that's why nobody has done it yet. Everyone wants to do\nit. Unfortunately its incredibly difficult to layout the object data\nin a way that the stream can be broken and restarted.\n\nIf you are new to Git, its unlikely you would be successful with this\nparticular project.\n\n-- \nShawn.\n"}]}
