I'll keep it as\nshort as possible.\n\nMy name is João Sampaio. I am a Computer Engineering student at\nFederal University of São Carlos, from Brazil. I'm very proud to be a\nstudent of one of the best Computer Engineering courses in the\ncountry. I'm 21. My English is 98% fluent, which means that I can read\nand write everything but I might miss a couple words or sentences here\nand there over voice communication like Skype and phone and you might\nnot understand what I'm saying, eventually. Nothing we can't overcome,\nthough. My mother language is Portuguese.\n\nI've used only Linux (mainly Ubuntu) for a few years now. Therefore,\nI'm familiar with UNIX systems and it's code production tools (gcc,\ngdb, vim, ...). I've never put my C knowlegdes to real test, but I'm\nvery much confident in them. This is the first real project I intend\nto contribute to. I also know C++, PHP and Python for programming\nlanguages and (X)HTML and CSS for the web.\n\nI'd like to state here that I'm interested in participating in Google\nSummer of Code this year, and as I've heard early applicants get\nbetter chances, here I am. I've already started studying Git and I've\ninstalled and am testing it in my computer. I have had very little\nprevious experience with version control systems, but I'm a fast\nlearner. I have a few friends that already participated in previous\nGSoC and they are also giving me some hints.\n\nI want to participate in the Git project because (a) I find version\ncontrol an interesting subject; (b) I'm much more motivated to work\nwith low-level languages like C than high-level, in which most other\nprojects are written on (even though I do like Python a lot); and (c)\nGit is widely used in important projects and it would be awesome to\nhave my name related to it.\n\nIf I happen to capture your attention, I'd be willing to talk to you,\nespecially if you are going to be a mentor in GSoC! I'm excited to get\ninvolved and we can already start to know each other to get ready for\nGSoC, if you want!\n\nThank you for your time,\n\n-- \nJoão Paulo Melo de Sampaio\njpmelos@jpmelos.com\nComputer Engineering Student @ UFSCar\nWebsite: http://www.jpmelos.com\n"},{"id":"159482","messageId":"4D303F2B.4060201@drmicha.warpmail.net","threadId":"26276","inReplyTo":"AANLkTimMhKDimy5pUfT7+cQraU1x470WJ0OWgZBwjdit@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re: Presenting myself to the community and GSoC 2011","fromName":"Michael J Gruber","fromEmail":"git@drmicha.warpmail.net","sentAt":"2011-01-14T12:18:51Z","receivedAt":"2011-01-14T12:18:51Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"git@grubix.eu","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/233215?v=4"},"body":"João Paulo Melo de Sampaio venit, vidit, dixit 14.01.2011 01:43:\n> Hello, people.\n> \n> I intend to present myself to the community here. If you do this and follow the list then ideas\nfor your first fixes and contributions will come up automatically.\nGetting a few patches accepted in git.git is not required before a GSoC\napplication but its the best way of getting to know the project and the\n(developers') community (and for us to get to know you). It can also\ngive you an idea about what area of Git to focus on for GSoC - if you\nstill want to stick with us by then ;)\n\nCheers,\nMichael\n"}]}
