If you have older versions, you can set\n   ASCIIDOC7 and ASCIIDOC_ROFF, respectively.\n\n * The option parsers of various commands that create new branches (or\n   rename existing ones to a new name) were too loose and users were\n   allowed to give a branch a name that begins with a dash by creative\n   abuse of their command line options, which only led to burning\n   themselves.  The name of a branch cannot begin with a dash now.\n\n * System-wide fallback default attributes can be stored in\n   /etc/gitattributes; core.attributesfile configuration variable can\n   be used to customize the path to this file.\n\n * The thread structure generated by \"git send-email\" has changed\n   slightly.  Setting the cover letter of the latest series as a reply\n   to the cover letter of the previous series with --in-reply-to used\n   to make the new cover letter and all the patches replies to the\n   cover letter of the previous series; this has been changed to make\n   the patches in the new series replies to the new cover letter.\n\n * Bash completion script in contrib/ has been adjusted to be usable with\n   Bash 4 (options with '=value' didn't complete)  It has been also made\n   usable with zsh.\n\n * Different pagers can be chosen depending on which subcommand is\n   being run under the pager, using \"pager.<subcommand>\" variable.\n\n * The hardcoded tab-width of 8 used in whitespace breakage checks is now\n   configurable via the attributes mechanism.\n\n * Support of case insensitive filesystems (i.e. \"core.ignorecase\") has\n   been improved.  For example, the gitignore mechanism didn't pay attention\n   to the case insensitivity.\n\n * The <tree>:<path> syntax to name a blob in a tree, and :<path>\n   syntax to name a blob in the index (e.g. \"master:Makefile\",\n   \":hello.c\") have been extended.  You can start <path> with \"./\" to\n   implicitly have the (sub)directory you are in prefixed to the\n   lookup.  Similarly, \":../Makefile\" from a subdirectory would mean\n   \"the Makefile of the parent directory in the index\".\n\n * \"git blame\" learned --show-email option to display the e-mail\n   addresses instead of the names of authors.\n\n * \"git commit\" learned --fixup and --squash options to help later invocation\n   of the interactive rebase.\n\n * Command line options to \"git cvsimport\" whose names are in capital\n   letters (-A, -M, -R and -S) can now be specified as the default in\n   the .git/config file by their longer names (cvsimport.authorsFile,\n   cvsimport.mergeRegex, cvsimport.trackRevisions, cvsimport.ignorePaths).\n\n * \"git daemon\" can be built in MinGW environment.\n\n * \"git daemon\" can take more than one --listen option to listen to\n   multiple addresses.\n\n * \"git describe --exact-match\" was optimized not to read commit\n   objects unnecessarily.\n\n * \"git diff\" and \"git grep\" learned how functions and subroutines\n   in Fortran look like.\n\n * \"git fetch\" learned \"--recurse-submodules\" option.\n\n * \"git mergetool\" tells vim/gvim to show three-way diff by default\n   (use vimdiff2/gvimdiff2 as the tool name for old behaviour).\n\n * \"git log -G<pattern>\" limits the output to commits whose change has\n   added or deleted lines that match the given pattern.\n\n * \"git read-tree\" with no argument as a way to empty the index is\n   deprecated; we might want to remove it in the future.  Users can\n   use the new --empty option to be more explicit instead.\n\n * \"git repack -f\" does not spend cycles to recompress objects in the\n   non-delta representation anymore (use -F if you really mean it\n   e.g. after you changed the core.compression variable setting).\n\n * \"git merge --log\" used to limit the resulting merge log to 20\n   entries; this is now customizable by giving e.g. \"--log=47\".\n\n * \"git merge\" may work better when all files were moved out of a\n   directory in one branch while a new file is created in place of that\n   directory in the other branch.\n\n * \"git rebase --autosquash\" can use SHA-1 object names to name which\n   commit to fix up (e.g. \"fixup! e83c5163\").\n\n * The default \"recursive\" merge strategy learned --rename-threshold\n   option to influence the rename detection, similar to the -M option\n   of \"git diff\".  From \"git merge\" frontend, \"-X<strategy option>\"\n   interface, e.g. \"git merge -Xrename-threshold=50% ...\", can be used\n   to trigger this.\n\n * The \"recursive\" strategy also learned to ignore various whitespace\n   changes; the most notable is -Xignore-space-at-eol.\n\n * \"git send-email\" learned \"--to-cmd\", similar to \"--cc-cmd\", to read\n   recipient list from a command output.\n\n * \"git send-email\" learned to read and use \"To:\" from its input files.\n\n * you can extend \"git shell\", which is often used on boxes that allow\n   git-only login over ssh as login shell, with custom set of\n   commands.\n\n * The current branch name in \"git status\" output can be colored differently\n   from the generic header color by setting \"color.status.branch\" variable.\n\n * \"git submodule sync\" updates metainformation for all submodules,\n   not just the ones that have been checked out.\n\n * gitweb can use custom 'highlight' command with its configuration file.\n\n * other gitweb updates.\n\n\nAlso contains various documentation updates.\n\n\nFixes since v1.7.3\n------------------\n\nAll of the fixes in v1.7.3.X maintenance series are included in this\nrelease, unless otherwise noted.\n\n * \"git log --author=me --author=her\" did not find commits written by\n   me or by her; instead it looked for commits written by me and by\n   her, which is impossible.\n\n * \"git push --progress\" shows progress indicators now.\n\n * \"git repack\" places its temporary packs under $GIT_OBJECT_DIRECTORY/pack\n   instead of $GIT_OBJECT_DIRECTORY/ to avoid cross directory renames.\n\n * \"git submodule update --recursive --other-flags\" passes flags down\n   to its subinvocations.\n"},{"id":"159276","messageId":"7v1v4k7kfx.fsf@alter.siamese.dyndns.org","threadId":"26210","inReplyTo":"201101100221.34077.johan@herland.net","subject":"Re: [ANNOUNCE] Git 1.7.4-rc1","fromName":"Junio C Hamano","fromEmail":"gitster@pobox.com","sentAt":"2011-01-10T17:11:30Z","receivedAt":"2011-01-10T17:11:30Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"gitster@pobox.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/54884?v=4"},"body":"Johan Herland <johan@herland.net> writes:\n\n> I can't find \"git merge --abort\" and \"git notes merge\" in this list. \n> Suggested paragraphs:\n>\n>  * \"git merge\" learned \"--abort\" option, synonymous to\n>    \"git reset --merge\" when a merge is in progress.\n>\n>  * \"git notes\" learned the \"merge\" subcommand to merge notes refs.\n>    In addition to the default manual conflict resolution, there are\n>    also several notes merge strategies for automatically resolving\n>    notes merge conflicts.\n\nThanks.\n"}]}
