We are not assigning copyrights to the SFC\n(though we could if we so chose), and the only real requirement it makes\non the code is that we continue to develop as an open-source project.\nThis just gives us a legal entity for doing any monetary things, or\nhandling contracts or license enforcement should it ever be necessary.\n\nThere is a committee of liaisons to the Conservancy consisting of Junio,\nShawn Pearce, and myself. Doing anything (e.g., spending money we have\nin our account) requires a majority vote of the committee. The committee\ncan be expanded with new members by a vote of the existing committee.\n\nAll of that is in our contract with the SFC.  There's no official\nprocedure for doing something like holding a periodic community-wide\nelection. If somebody wants to organize such a thing, I'm sure the\ncommittee would be happy to recognize the results by adding in whoever\nwins the election. For starters, we went with the simplest thing.\n\n> Among other things, the SFC will now handle any project money that Git\n> receives (e.g., Google Summer of Code money). In the past\nit has mostly gone to helping developers (especially students with no\nmoney) make it to the GitTogether. If you do feel like donating money,\nyou might also consider making a suggestion of what to do with it. :)\n\nYou might also consider donating directly to the SFC. Their mission is\ngood, and git indirectly benefits by having access to their services.\nFor donations earmarked for git, we give the SFC 10%.\n\nIf you have any other questions about what this means for git, or\nsuggestions on how it could or should impact the community, feel free to\nask. I probably won't have good answers, but Bradley Kuhn from the\nConservancy (cc'd) will.\n\n-Peff\n"},{"id":"158249","messageId":"AANLkTikB5eMLh0fZBBOjwAaAwxPnC-3hap28RCXNXa0y@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"26088","inReplyTo":"20101217002034.GA18648@sigill.intra.peff.net","subject":"Re: [ANNOUNCE] Git in the SFC","fromName":"Erik Faye-Lund","fromEmail":"kusmabite@gmail.com","sentAt":"2010-12-17T01:02:09Z","receivedAt":"2010-12-17T01:02:09Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"kusmabite@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/47073?v=4"},"body":"On Fri, Dec 17, 2010 at 1:20 AM, Jeff King <peff@peff.net> wrote:\n> I'm pleased to announce that Git is now a member project of the Software\n> Freedom Conservancy (SFC). Would\n> it be possible to donate through flattr also?\n\nYes, I've been looking into flattr in the last two weeks.  I'm trying to\nfigure out a way for flattr to allow a \"master account\" so that each of\nConservancy's member projects can have its own and the funds all come to\nConservancy, properly routed for each project.\n\nIf Flattr doesn't support that 'master account' idea, what I'll do is\nmake a separate flattr account for each of Conservancy's member\nprojects.  Hopefully, that can be done yet have all the banking\ninformation be the same.\n\nI'll experiment more with this over the weekend and into early next\nweek.  I'll report to the Conservancy Git Committee (which is currently\nJeff, Junio, and Shawn) on what I discover and how we can make it work.\n\nAnyway, I'll find a way to do it, one way or the other.  Flattr has\nbecome a very popular way to donate to FLOSS projects and Conservancy\ntherefore needs to support it.\n\nBTW, to reiterate what Jeff mentioned in his post, if anyone ever has any\nquestions about Git's membership in Conservancy, just email\n<git@sfconservancy.org>.  That alias reaches both me and the Conservancy\nGit Committee simultaneously.\n-- \nBradley M. Kuhn, Executive Director, Software Freedom Conservancy\n"}]}
