Actually, the end goal is\ndevelopment of a fast-import frontend.  The fast-import manpage says\nthat it is safe to run \"any other\" git operation concurrently with\nfast-import.  It doesn't say if it is possible and safe to run another\ncopy of fast-import itself.\n\nThe reason I'd like to do this is speedup.  With sequential approach my\nfrontend can only load each core on my system about 50%.  If I could run\nmultiple imports concurrently I could make it close to 100%, especially\nwhen feeding it blobs (which take most of the time).\n\nThanks for the advice.\n\n-- \nIan Zimmerman <itz@buug.org>\ngpg public key: 1024D/C6FF61AD \nfingerprint: 66DC D68F 5C1B 4D71 2EE5  BD03 8A00 786C C6FF 61AD\nHam is for reading, not for eating.\n"},{"id":"156743","messageId":"AANLkTi=ZH+GNZyPSbafuDEE5nsFtezoePK+gFtM6HrEX@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"25856","inReplyTo":"8739qmzaha.fsf@matica.localdomain","subject":"Re: fast-import: multiple processes possible?","fromName":"Shawn Pearce","fromEmail":"spearce@spearce.org","sentAt":"2010-11-27T22:28:17Z","receivedAt":"2010-11-27T22:28:17Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"spearce@spearce.org","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/34844?v=4"},"body":"On Sat, Nov 27, 2010 at 2:07 PM, Ian Zimmerman <itz@buug.org> wrote:\n>\n> Hi, I have a user question, I hope that's ok.  Actually, the end goal is\n> development of a fast-import frontend.  The fast-import manpage says\n> that it is safe to run \"any other\" git operation concurrently with\n> fast-import.  It doesn't say if it is possible and safe to run another\n> copy of fast-import itself.\n\nYes, you can.\n\nThe only problem is, each fast-import cannot see the objects created\nby the other concurrent fast-imports until they either terminate, or\nexecute \"checkpoint\" command received from the frontend.\n\n-- \nShawn.\n"}]}
