One reason is that I want\ngit-gui to push tags by default, and the option is not available to\nstore that in some global config. The patches I apply are available\nas http://tux.nl/Files/git-patch\n\n(the templates/Makefile patch is to make install work on HP-UX and AIX\n too, where my machines don't seem to like the original installation\n code, but that doesn't change anything else).\n\nUp to and including 1.7.2.1, all went smooth and fine, but as of\n1.7.2.2 (and 1.7.3.1 and 1.7.3.2), the tests started to fail on svn\nissues. These tests fail * with or without * my patches. As a result\nof these failures, I do not dare to install newer versions of git.\n\nI (have to) use svn for some remote repositories that I clone with\ngit-svn to be able to use my favorite tools. My system seems to have a non-standard \"cmp\" that seems to\nhave been chosen over the system one.
