It is a python program, which allows you to manage many scm\nrepositories at once, e.g. pull all repositories, that are matched by a\ngiven regex. Before you can use it you have to define a set of\nrepositories. This can either be accomplished by defining them one by\none, or you can use a repo lister. \n\nOne good example of a repo lister is the SSHDir lister. It performs a\nfind on a remote server within a given directory and adds all the\nrepositories there to your repo set. There is also a lister to get all\nyour github repos (or gitorious).\n\nBut metagit isn't narrowed to git as scm. At this point it also gives\nyou the possibility to use mercurial as scm backend and you can clone\nyour damned fucked SVN repo with git-svn (with the externals, if you wish).\n\nThe configuration is just a python script, where you can use the power\nof python to define your repositories, and no package is used that isn't\nshipped with python (at minimum python 2.5 (it workes perfectly with\ndebian stable)). \n\nYou can also define policies which of your defined repos (or listers)\nshow up on a machine (this is done by a regex against the fqdn).\n\nIf you have any wish what metagit should also be able to do, write me a\nmail, write a issue at github or fork it :-)\n\ngreetz didi\n\n[1] http://github.com/stettberger/metagit\n-- \n(λ x . x x) (λ x . x x) -- See how beatiful the lambda is\nNo documentation is better than bad documentation\n-- Das Ausdrucken dieser Mail wird urheberrechtlich verfolgt.\n"},{"id":"152943","messageId":"87bp758nds.fsf@catnip.gol.com","threadId":"25384","inReplyTo":"86k4lteow6.fsf@peer.zerties.org","subject":"Re: [ANNOUNCE] metagit 0.1.2","fromName":"Miles Bader","fromEmail":"miles@gnu.org","sentAt":"2010-10-08T01:49:19Z","receivedAt":"2010-10-08T01:49:19Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"miles@gnu.org","avatar":"https://gravatar.com/avatar/01069b69593af7bff28e2f97afeb3644ae6fe2f5f56cb3a8cf34c5fb8c36efe5?d=mp&s=160"},"body":"Christian Dietrich <stettberger@dokucode.de> writes:\n> If you have any wish what metagit should also be able to do, write me a\n> mail, write a issue at github or fork it :-)\n\nNot require python?\n\n-Miles\n\n-- \nAmericans are broad-minded people. My focus was always,\nthat i can run the same config on all of my machines, because I tend to\nhave all my documents in single git repos (e.g. every course at\nuniversity is a git repo).\n\nTo make this happen, i needed to define some modules that list me all my\nrepositories on the server where my university stuff is. But i didn't\nwant to see my uni stuff at work, so i needed policies where the repos\nshould come up. As i see these features aren't implemented directly in\nmr.\n\nFor my work, where svn with svn:externals is used, I implemented the\nsvn:externals support, where all the externals are cloned\nrecursivly. (You can even define if a given command is executed on the\nexternals or not). This is also a feature mr doesn't have.\n\nAnd there is the simple, but useful metagit cd, which echos a cd command\nto a repository path. So with the bash function\n\nmm () {\n $(metagit cd $@)\n}\n\nI can simply jump to the metagit repo with `mm meta', where ever it was put.\n\nOn the other hand metagit doesn't implement recording of actions if\nyou're offline. And of course the most important point that metagit is\nworse than mr is, as already mentioned, that it is written in python and\nnot in perl. \n\ngreetz didi\n-- \n(λ x . x x) (λ x . x x) -- See how beatiful the lambda is\nNo documentation is better than bad documentation\n-- Das Ausdrucken dieser Mail wird urheberrechtlich verfolgt.\n"},{"id":"153048","messageId":"m362xbg3b3.fsf@localhost.localdomain","threadId":"25384","inReplyTo":"86k4lteow6.fsf@peer.zerties.org","subject":"Re: [ANNOUNCE] metagit 0.1.2","fromName":"Jakub Narebski","fromEmail":"jnareb@gmail.com","sentAt":"2010-10-09T08:48:39Z","receivedAt":"2010-10-09T08:48:39Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"jnareb@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/2706?v=4"},"body":"Christian Dietrich <stettberger@dokucode.de> writes:\n\n> I wanted to announce my project metagit[1], which I started a few weeks\n> ago.
