A public view (only view!) of repositories can be obtained by gitweb, and this also works flawlessly. \n\nOn my debian server though, I don't know how to enable public cloning via http, since I don't really want to use WebDAV, as explained on the \"setup-git-server-over-http.txt\" howto. \n\nAs suggested, I issued the \"git update-server-info\" command in the repository location, however, this has no effect on the repository:\n\n# git update-server-info\n\n# ls refs/\nheads  tags\n\nMy apache configuration regarding git is this:\n\n(...)\n\t<Directory /var/www/site/git>\n\t\tAllow from all\n\t\tAllowOverride all\n\t\tOrder allow,deny\n\t\tOptions ExecCGI\n\t\t<Files gitweb.cgi>\n\t\t\tSetHandler cgi-script\n\t\t</Files>\n\t\tDirectoryIndex gitweb.cgi\n\t</Directory>\n\tSetEnv  GITWEB_CONFIG  /etc/gitweb.conf\n\n\t<Directory /home/git>\n\t\tOrder allow,deny\n\t\tAllow from all\n\t</Directory>\n(...)\n\n\nAnyway, I keep having the very same error (I tried also with different paths with no luck and the same error):\n\n$ git clone http://my.site/home/git/repo\nCloning into repo...\nfatal: http://my.site/home/git/repo/info/refs not found: did you run git update-server-info on the server?\n\n\nThere's something terribly naive that I'm missing here, I know!\n\nCan you give me a hint?\n\nThanks & Cheers!\n"}]}
