However, there was one\nvery long and productive discussion about the design of svn-fe. We can\nnow prove that the design of svn-fe is most efficient, and that any\nother dumpfile importer will do worse than svn-fe. I'll put this proof\ndown in another email, and use this one for just a status update. We\nhave also determined that some some extensions to git-fast-import will\nsignificantly reduce the complexity of svn-fe. Here are the current\nlist of tasks along with their status:\n\n1. The svnclient_ra. I have stopped working on a stopgap\n implementation of svnclient_ra that dumps full text/ props; to do\n this, it needs to interrupt a replay and open a new connection- it\n seems that this is quite non-trivial to get right. I've decided to\n complete the delta dump generator instead. Unfortunately, this\n means that I won't have a complete chain to show a remote helper by\n mid-term evaluations: just individual components.\n2. Ternary treap fork. This only changes the underlying data\n structure- nothing else should change. David is close to completing\n this.\n3. Make svn-fe support deltified dumps. This can only be done after we\n have a Git object store backing. Deferred for the moment.\n4. git-fast-import only supports filecopy for trees from the parent\n commit; make it support copies from all commits. Jonathan has\n already sent an RFC patch on the list for this.\n5. Zero-tree fork. svn-fe currently maintains trees for all revisions;\n Jonathan suggested that it can lazily fetch tree objects from the\n Git store backing. This change will significantly reduce the\n complexity of svn-fe.\n6. git-fast-import needs to be extended to print-marks. Sverre\n suggested this, and Jonathan has sent an RFC patch on the\n list. This is required for the Git object store to communicate back\n commit hashes to the caller (svn-fe in this case).\n\nIn other news, we managed to get colabti.org to log the channel where\nwe have most of our discussions: #git-devel on Freenode IRC. This\ninformation is probably helpful for other GSoC students and developers\nwho are looking to collaborate on projects.\n\n-- Ram\n"},{"id":"144653","messageId":"AANLkTikWHW7bZ61lTnhkJ_kYyV-193sKsztPR-s7gxvM@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"24253","inReplyTo":"20100701131310.GA28607@debian","subject":"Re: [GSoC update] git-remote-svn: Week 9","fromName":"Bo Yang","fromEmail":"struggleyb.nku@gmail.com","sentAt":"2010-07-02T01:40:57Z","receivedAt":"2010-07-02T01:40:57Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"struggleyb.nku@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/233030?v=4"},"body":"On Thu, Jul 1, 2010 at 9:13 PM, Ramkumar Ramachandra <artagnon@gmail.com> wrote:\n>\n> In other news, we managed to get colabti.org to log the channel where\n> we have most of our discussions: #git-devel on Freenode IRC.
