DISCOVERY_ACROSS_FILESYSTEM\n environment variable can be used to tell git not to stop at a\n filesystem boundary.\n\n * Usage help messages generated by parse-options library (i.e. most\n of the Porcelain commands) are sent to the standard output now.\n\n * ':/<string>' notation to look for a commit now takes regular expression\n and it is not anchored at the beginning of the commit log message\n anymore (this is a backward incompatible change).\n\n * \"git\" wrapper learned \"-c name=value\" option to override configuration\n variable from the command line.\n\n * Improved portability for various platforms including older SunOS,\n HP-UX 10/11, AIX, Tru64, etc. and platforms with Python 2.4.\n\n * The message from \"git am -3\" has been improved when conflict\n resolution ended up making the patch a no-op.\n\n * \"git blame\" applies the textconv filter to the contents it works\n on, when available.\n\n * \"git checkout --orphan newbranch\" is similar to \"-b newbranch\" but\n prepares to create a root commit that is not connected to any existing\n commit.\n\n * \"git cherry-pick\" learned to pick a range of commits\n (e.g. \"cherry-pick A..B\" and \"cherry-pick --stdin\"); this does not\n have nicer sequencing control \"rebase [-i]\" has, though.\n\n * \"git cvsserver\" can be told to use pserver; its password file can be\n stored outside the repository.\n\n * The output from the textconv filter used by \"git diff\" can be cached to\n speed up their reuse.\n\n * \"git diff --word-diff=<mode>\" extends the existing \"--color-words\"\n option, making it more useful in color-challenged environments.\n\n * The regexp to detect function headers used by \"git diff\" for PHP has\n been enhanced for visibility modifiers (public, protected, etc.) to\n better support PHP5.\n\n * \"diff.noprefix\" configuration variable can be used to implicitly\n ask for \"diff --no-prefix\" behaviour.\n\n * \"git for-each-ref\" learned \"%(objectname:short)\" that gives the object\n name abbreviated.\n\n * \"git format-patch\" learned --signature option and format.signature\n configuration variable to customize the e-mail signature used in the\n output.\n\n * Various options to \"git grep\" (e.g. --count, --name-only) work better\n with binary files.\n\n * \"git grep\" learned \"-Ovi\" to open the files with hits in yoru editor.\n\n * \"git help -w\" learned \"chrome\" and \"chromium\" browsers.\n\n * \"git log --decorate\" shows commit decorations in various colours.\n\n * \"git log --follow <path>\" follows across copies (it used to only follow\n renames). This may make the processing more expensive.\n\n * \"git log --pretty=format:<template>\" specifier learned \"% <something>\"\n magic that inserts a space only when %<something> expands to a\n non-empty string; this is similar to \"%+<something>\" magic, but is\n useful in a context to generate a single line output.\n\n * \"git notes prune\" learned \"-n\" (dry-run) and \"-v\" options, similar to\n what \"git prune\" has.\n\n * \"git patch-id\" can be fed a mbox without getting confused by the\n signature line in the format-patch output.\n\n * \"git remote\" learned \"set-branches\" subcommand.\n\n * \"git revert\" learned --strategy option to specify the merge strategy.\n\n * \"git rev-list A..B\" learned --ancestry-path option to further limit\n the result to the commits that are on the ancestry chain between A and\n B (i.e. commits that are not descendants of A are excluded).\n\n * \"git show -5\" is equivalent to \"git show --do-walk 5\"; this is similar\n to the update to make \"git show master..next\" walk the history,\n introduced in 1.6.4.\n\n * \"git status [-s] --ignored\" can be used to list ignored paths.\n\n * \"git status -s -b\" shows the current branch in the output.\n\n * \"git status\" learned \"--ignore-submodules\" option.\n\n * Various \"gitweb\" enhancements and clean-ups, including syntax\n highlighting, \"plackup\" support for instaweb, .fcgi suffix to run\n it as FastCGI script, etc.\n\n\nFixes since v1.7.1\n------------------\n\nAll of the fixes in v1.7.1.X maintenance series are included in this\nrelease, unless otherwise noted.\n\n * We didn't URL decode \"file:///path/to/repo\" correctly when path/to/repo\n had percent-encoded characters (638794c, 9d2e942).\n\n * \"git commit\" did not honor GIT_REFLOG_ACTION environment variable, resulting\n reflog messages for cherry-pick and revert actions to be recorded as \"commit\".\n\n * \"git clone/fetch/pull\" issued an incorrect error message when a ref and\n a symref that points to the ref were updated at the same time. This\n obviously would update them to the same value, and should not result in\n an error condition (0e71bc3).\n\n * \"git clone\" did not configure remote.origin.url correctly for bare\n clones (df61c889).\n\n * \"git diff\" inside a tree with many pathnames that have certain\n characters has become very slow in 1.7.0 by mistake (will merge\n e53e6b443 to 'maint').\n\n * \"git diff --graph\" works better with \"--color-words\" and other options\n (81fa024..4297c0a).\n\n * \"git diff\" could show ambiguous abbreviation of blob object names on\n its \"index\" line (3e5a188).\n\n * \"git rebase\" did not faithfully reproduce a malformed author ident, that\n is often seen in a repository converted from foreign SCMs (43c23251).\n\n * \"git reset --hard\" started from a wrong directory and a working tree in\n a nonstandard location is in use got confused (560fb6a1).\n\n----------------------------------------------------------------\n\nChanges since v1.7.2-rc0 are as follows:\n\nAndrew Sayers (2):\n bash-completion: Fix __git_ps1 to work with \"set -u\"\n bash completion: Support \"divergence from upstream\" messages in __git_ps1\n\nBrandon Casey (4):\n t/lib-pager.sh: remove unnecessary '^' from 'expr' regular expression\n t/t7811-grep-open.sh: ensure fake \"less\" is made executable\n t/t7811-grep-open.sh: remove broken/redundant creation of fake \"less\" script\n t/t9001: use egrep when regular expressions are involved\n\nBrian Gernhardt (1):\n t4027,4041: Use test -s to test for an empty file\n\nChristian Couder (1):\n revert: accept arbitrary rev-list options\n\nJeff King (1):\n notes: check number of parameters to \"git notes copy\"\n\nJens Lehmann (4):\n git diff: rename test that had a conflicting name\n Add optional parameters to the diff option \"--ignore-submodules\"\n git submodule: ignore dirty submodules for summary and status\n Add the option \"--ignore-submodules\" to \"git status\"\n\nJohannes Schindelin (3):\n Unify code paths of threaded greps\n grep: Add the option '--open-files-in-pager'\n grep -O: allow optional argument specifying the pager (or editor)\n\nJonathan Nieder (3):\n grep: refactor grep_objects loop into its own function\n t3508 (cherry-pick): futureproof against unmerged files\n revert: do not rebuild argv on heap\n\nJulian Phillips (6):\n string_list: Fix argument order for print_string_list\n string_list: Fix argument order for for_each_string_list\n string_list: Fix argument order for string_list_insert\n string_list: Fix argument order for string_list_insert_at_index\n string_list: Fix argument order for string_list_lookup\n string_list: Fix argument order for string_list_append\n\nJunio C Hamano (5):\n url_decode: URL scheme ends with a colon and does not require a slash\n Update draft release notes to 1.7.1.1\n Git 1.7.1.1\n git.spec.in: Add gitweb subpackage\n Git 1.7.2-rc1\n\nMichael J Gruber (4):\n t6018: add tests for rev-list's --branches and --tags\n t6018: make sure all tested symbolic names are different revs\n git-rev-parse.txt: Document \":path\" specifier\n git-rev-parse.txt: Add more examples for caret and colon\n\nNazri Ramliy (5):\n commit.h: add 'type' to struct name_decoration\n log-tree.c: Use struct name_decoration's type for classifying decoration\n log --decorate: Colorize commit decorations\n Allow customizable commit decorations colors\n Add test for correct coloring of git log --decoration\n\nRamsay Allan Jones (2):\n msvc: Select the \"fast\" definition of the {get,put}_be32() macros\n notes: Initialise variable to appease gcc\n\nThomas Rast (1):\n rev-list: introduce --count option\n"},{"id":"145098","messageId":"vpq4ogaxurv.fsf@bauges.imag.fr","threadId":"24244","inReplyTo":"7vhbkk3vm7.fsf@alter.siamese.dyndns.org","subject":"Re: [ANNOUNCE] Git 1.7.2.rc1","fromName":"Matthieu Moy","fromEmail":"matthieu.moy@grenoble-inp.fr","sentAt":"2010-07-08T08:06:12Z","receivedAt":"2010-07-08T08:06:12Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"matthieu.moy@grenoble-inp.fr","avatar":"https://gravatar.com/avatar/72c8a2705971a25dfaff23cece15130d405685845d911aedd5667ace277f3fc5?d=mp&s=160"},"body":"Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com> writes:\n\n> Updates since v1.7.1\n\n> * \"git blame\" applies the textconv filter to the contents it works\n> on, when available.\n\nI think you forgot to mention \"git cat-file --textconv\" (branch\ncp/textconv-cat-file).
