Build from a release tarball which contains the \"configure\" script.\n\n  2. Run \"autoconf\" to generate the configure script (obviously this\n     implies that you have GNU autoconf installed).\n\n  3. Just run \"make\" without configure. You may need to tweak some\n     settings if you don't have some optional libraries installed. Try the \"blame parent\" option of \"git gui blame\" or \"tig\",\nand you will see that 5566771 (the original commit adding autoconf\nsupport) is actually responsible. So yes, it has been intentionally\nignored since the beginning.\n\nHope that helps,\n-Peff\n"},{"id":"141890","messageId":"20100518215320.GA9065@progeny.tock","threadId":"23838","inReplyTo":"20100518200150.GB4448@coredump.intra.peff.net","subject":"Re: Git clone problem, missing \"configure\"","fromName":"Jonathan Nieder","fromEmail":"jrnieder@gmail.com","sentAt":"2010-05-18T21:53:20Z","receivedAt":"2010-05-18T21:53:20Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"jrnieder@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/281595?v=4"},"body":"Hi,\n\nJeff King wrote:\n\n> Right. This runs autoconf, also filling in the version number for\ncorrect ./configure --help output. :)\n\nSee the README and INSTALL files for more details.\n\nHope that helps,\nJonathan\n"}]}
