This is a call for testing so that things will work as \nexpected, on as many platforms as possible.\n\nThe upcoming release will include several new features:\n\n\n* Support for most features of the \"diff --git\" format: renames and copies,\n  permission changes, symlink diffs.  (Binary diffs are not supported yet;\n  patch will complain and skip them.)\n\n* Support for double-quoted filenames: when a filename in a context diff\n  starts with a double quote, it is interpreted as a C string literal.  The\n  escape sequences \\\\, \\\", \\a, \\b, \\f, \\n, \\r, \\t, \\v, and \\ooo (a three-digit\n  octal number between 0 and 255) are recognized.\n\n* Refuse to patch read-only files by default, or at least warn when patching\n  such files with --force or --batch.\n\n* Refuse to apply a normal patch to a symlink.  (Previous versions of patch\n  were wrongly replacing the symlink with a regular file.)\n\n* When a timestamp specifies a time zone, honor that instead of assuming the\n  local time zone (--set-date) or Universal Coordinated Time (--set-utc).\n\n* Support for nanosecond precision timestamps.\n\n\nBehind the scenes, some infrastructure changes have happened as well: the \nproject now uses GNU Automake, and the previous, static copy of the Gnulib \nlibrary has been replaced by a git submodule.\n\n\nThe project home with the development repository, bug tracker, and bug-\npatch@gnu.org mailing list archive is located at:\n\n  http://savannah.gnu.org/projects/patch\n\nDevelopment snapshots will be made available on:\n\n  ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/patch/\n\nPrevious stable releases are available at:\n\n  ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/patch/\n\nPlease send bug reports or suggestions to <bug-patch@gnu.org>.\n\nThanks,\nAndreas\n\n-------------------------------------------------------\n"}]}
