I've been reading Jon Loeliger's book about\ngit and I've understood many many things. I'm interested in using git\nas a backup and sync system between computers.\n\nThe one thing I'm missing is files metadata. I thought the simplest\napproach would be to create a \"hidden\" file containing the output from\nstat (or something similar but more helpful). Then hash that \"hidden\"\nfile as well or even make it part of the real file (ie first line of\nevery file are their metadata)... I think I should look into some\nhooks, but I'd need some guidance to get started... help appreciated!\n\nSimon\n"},{"id":"138455","messageId":"k2mfabb9a1e1004021235xc75e25a8na941c1754fd543c@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"23307","inReplyTo":"m2q5f14cf5e1004021216y60797d29j1f63092435998823@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re: git as backup and file sync system","fromName":"Sverre Rabbelier","fromEmail":"srabbelier@gmail.com","sentAt":"2010-04-02T19:35:36Z","receivedAt":"2010-04-02T19:35:36Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"srabbelier@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/3098?v=4"},"body":"Heya,\n\nOn Fri, Apr 2, 2010 at 13:16, Simon <turner25@gmail.com> wrote:\n>  I'm not sure if this post will be very welcome, but I'd like your\n> feedback or suggestions.  I've been reading Jon Loeliger's book about\n> git and I've understood many many things.  I'm interested in using git\n> as a backup and sync system between computers.\n\nYou might want to look into 'bup', [0] designed specifically for that\npurpose.
