THere are two characters in this file that are not ASCII\nand one of them is in a comment. We could even just use (c) to\nsimplify this. However, \\u00a9 is the correct unicode escape sequence\nfor tcl to get a copyright character into the script in a way that is\nindependent of the encoding. The escape sequence should be passed\nthrough unchanged in any translations - tcl wants to see exactly\n\\u00a9 and everyone is using a copyright glyph here. \n-- \nPat Thoyts                            http://www.patthoyts.tk/\nPGP fingerprint 2C 6E 98 07 2C 59 C8 97  10 CE 11 E6 04 E0 B9 DD\n"},{"id":"137596","messageId":"20100322234517.GB2168@progeny.tock","threadId":"23000","inReplyTo":"87pr2wc6bo.fsf@fox.patthoyts.tk","subject":"Re: [PATCH] gitk: Fix display of copyright symbol in non-utf-8 locales","fromName":"Jonathan Nieder","fromEmail":"jrnieder@gmail.com","sentAt":"2010-03-22T23:45:17Z","receivedAt":"2010-03-22T23:45:17Z","isPatch":true,"sender":{"key":"jrnieder@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/281595?v=4"},"body":"Pat Thoyts wrote:\n> Jonathan Nieder <jrnieder@gmail.com> writes:\n\n>> --- a/gitk\n>> +++ b/gitk\n>> @@ -1,6 +1,6 @@\n>>  #!/bin/sh\n>>  # Tcl ignores the next line -*- tcl -*- \\\n>> -exec wish \"$0\" -- \"$@\"\n>> +exec wish -encoding utf-8 \"$0\" -- \"$@\"\n[...]\n> I would much rather see any fault in the makefile fixed than use\n> source -encoding in all the various places this script might get\n> loaded from.\n\nGood point: git-gui.sh does not use ‘source’ but runs the moral\nequivalent of\n \n set wish [info executable]\n eval exec $wish gitk $revs \"--\" \"--\"\n\nto avoid starting a shell.  Is it really so expensive to start a\nshell? The problem is that everything\nTcl-related seems to assume files it sees will be in either the\ncurrent locale’s encoding or ISO-8859-1 unless told otherwise, as far\nas I can tell. You\ncan see some screenshots here:\n\n  http://repo.or.cz/w/git/jrn.git/commit/gitk-snapshots\n\nThe text fields, buttons, and drop-down boxes retain the traditional\ngrey background, while the menu bar, “SHA1 ID” label, and “Lines of\ncontext” selector do change color.  The effect is very strange.\n\nWhen themed widgets are disabled, the tk_setPalette issue described in\nthe comment still applies.\n\nSo I can understand better: are you saying in Windows themed widgets\nare always used?\n\nJonathan\n"}]}
