Branching and merging are fast and easy to do.\n\nProjects using git include the Linux kernel, X.org, Perl, Gnome, Ruby on\nRails, Wine, Android, and more.\n\n>    * FLOSS License(s) used by the project\n\nThe core git code is licensed under GPLv2.\n\nThe JGit code, a pure-Java implementation of git, is licensed under\nthe Eclipse Distribution License, which is a new-style BSD\nlicense.\n\n>    * Roadmap for future development.\n\nGit is a stable, widely-used version control system.  The majority\nof the key functionality is already implemented.  Consequently the\nproject does not maintain a formal roadmap, but instead accepts\na wide range of relevant enhancements and fixes directly from\nthe user community.\n\nBased on prior history, major new releases occur about every 18\nmonths, minor releases about every 2-3 months, and maintenance\nreleases every few weeks.  Development is highly distributed,\nwith over 280 individual contributors during the past 12 months,\nand over 730 contributors since the project's inception.\n\n>    * link to the website.\n\nhttp://git-scm.org\nhttp://www.eclipse.org/jgit/\n\n>    * Link to the code repository.\n\nhttp://git.kernel.org/?p=git/git.git\nhttp://repo.or.cz/w/jgit.git\n\n>    * Have you ever had funds held by the project, or by any individual\n>      on behalf of the projects?  How and for what did you spend those\n>      funds?\n\nYes. We received funds from participating in the Google Summer of Code\nin 2008 and 2009. Those funds were disbursed to individual project\nmembers, and used for transportation and lodging of members attending\nthe GSoC mentor summit and the GitTogether, our annual mini-conference\nfor developers.  The remainder of the funds were sent to the SFC.\n\n>    * Brief history of the project, including past governance decisions.\n\nGit was started by Linus Torvalds in April of 2005. In July of 2005,\nJunio C Hamano became the maintainer. Junio maintains sole control of\nthe codebase, accepting changes from other developers (both frequent\ncontributers and one-time patch submitters). For participation in the\nGoogle Summer of Code, Shawn Pearce has served as the project\nadministrator.\n\nJGit was started in 2006 by Shawn Pearce to provide an efficient,\nportable implementation of Git for Java based applications.  The\nproject moved to the Eclipse Foundation in late 2009, but remains a\nstandalone component and is widely embedded in non-Eclipse software.\n\n>    * Existing for-profit or non-profit affiliations, funding\n>      relationships, or other agreements that the project or its leaders\n>      have with other organizations.\n\nGit has participated in the Google Summer of Code.\n\nJGit is hosted by the Eclipse Foundation, and is run in accordance\nwith the foundation's development processes.\n\n>    * Names, email addresses, and affiliations of key developers, past and\n>      present.\n\nJunio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>\n(Part of Junio's git time used to be funded jointly by his employer and\nNEC, but the latter is not anymore.)\n\nShawn O. I kept the list in the application itself more compact, but\ngave a link to git-scm.com/about (as Julian suggested) for a longer list\nof committers, and directly linked to Junio's MaintNotes to get more\ndetails on what people are working on.\n\n-Peff\n"}]}
