The patch is\nbelow (it does not replace your 3/4; it merely gets the information up\nto grab_single_ref).\n\nThe patch below is to show the extent of the change. The changes were\nmostly mechanical, and I haven't extensively tested. However, it\n_should_ be a no-op, as most callbacks just ignore the new information.\nThe exception is read_remote_branches, which was re-resolving just to\nfind symref information.\n\nIf we were going to do this for real, I would be tempted to actually\nchange the signature of each_ref_fn to take a struct so this doesn't\ncome up again, and do three patches:\n\n  1/3: pass \"struct reflist\" to each_ref_fn\n  2/3: add symref to \"struct reflist\"\n  3/3: use added symref information in read_remote_branches\n\n---\n bisect.c               |    2 +-\n builtin-branch.c       |    2 +-\n I was thinking that we had to pay the resolve_ref cost\nfor _every_ ref, symref or not, but that is not the case. Because we\npass along the flag, we can re-resolve only the few that need it.\n\nSo there is even less efficiency to be gained than I at first thought.\nLet's just drop it, as it is such an invasive change for no good reason.\n\n-Peff\n"}]}
