{"thread":{"id":"22412","subject":"[problem] out of memory","startedAt":"2010-01-27T17:16:36Z","lastAt":"2010-01-27T17:16:36Z","messageCount":1,"participants":["Frédéric Heulin"],"isPatch":false,"patchVersion":null,"patchTotal":null},"messages":[{"id":"132811","messageId":"821836537.2475221264612596403.JavaMail.root@spooler9-g27.priv.proxad.net","threadId":"22412","inReplyTo":null,"subject":"[problem] out of memory","fromName":"Frédéric Heulin","fromEmail":"frederic.heulin@free.fr","sentAt":"2010-01-27T17:16:36Z","receivedAt":"2010-01-27T17:16:36Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"frederic.heulin@free.fr","avatar":null},"body":"Hi All,\n\nI have a cvs repository I try to convert to git.\nI have used cvs2git (1 week old) to get the dumps from cvs.\nTo be able to do the fast-import import into the new git.\nI had to use a bigger machine than mine (the big is 64bits, 8GB ram, mine is 32bits,4GB ram)\nbecause on my machine git ran out of memory.\nOnce converted, I tried to do a clone, it ran out of memory on my machine.\n\n - version used for gitc\n   - on my machine : 1.6.6.1\n   - on the big machine : 1.5.6.5 (debian lenny)\n\n - Here's the list of the commands that failed out of memory (stop at 2.7GB memory consumed):\ngit for-each-ref\ngit rev-list --branches --tags\n\n - this command succeeded :\ngit rev-list --branches (80MB consumed)\n\n - some packing have been done :\ngit repack -a -d -f \ngit pack-ref --all\n(on the big machine, it fails on mine)\n\nafter the git commands keep failing out of memory, 'git rev-list --branches' included.\n\n - there is 2159 refs in the repository.\n\n - git count-objects -v gives :\n\ncount: 0\nsize: 0\nin-pack: 133986\npacks: 1\nsize-pack: 365678\nprune-packable: 0\ngarbage: 0\n\n - I still have a copy of the cvs and git repositories for testing.\n\nThanks in advance for any help,\nFrédéric Heulin.\n"}]}
