This is not a\n   bugfix but 1.6.6 will have this and without backporting users cannot\n   easily use the same ~/.gitconfig across versions.\n\n * \"git diff -B -M\" did the same computation to hash lines of contents\n   twice, and held onto memory after it has used the data in it\n   unnecessarily before it freed.\n\n * \"git diff -B\" and \"git diff --dirstat\" was not counting newly added\n   contents correctly.\n\n * \"git format-patch revisions... -- path\" issued an incorrect error\n   message that suggested to use \"--\" on the command line when path\n   does not exist in the current work tree (it is a separate matter if\n   it makes sense to limit format-patch with pathspecs like that\n   without using the --full-diff option).\n\n * \"git grep -F -i StRiNg\" did not work as expected.\n\n * Enumeration of available merge strategies iterated over the list of\n   commands in a wrong way, sometimes producing an incorrect result.\n\n * \"git shortlog\" did not honor the \"encoding\" header embedded in the\n   commit object like \"git log\" did.\n\n * Reading progress messages that come from the remote side while running\n   \"git pull\" is given precedence over reading the actual pack data to\n   prevent garbled progress message on the user's terminal.\n\n * \"git rebase\" got confused when the log message began with certain\n   strings that looked like Subject:, Date: or From: header.\n\n * \"git reset\" accidentally run in .git/ directory checked out the\n   work tree contents in there.\n\nOther minor documentation updates are included.\n\n----------------------------------------------------------------\n\nChanges since v1.6.5.4 are as follows:\n\nAvery Pennarun (1):\n      builtin-merge.c: call exclude_cmds() correctly.\n\nBrandon Casey (1):\n      t4201: use ISO8859-1 rather than ISO-8859-1\n\nBrian Collins (1):\n      grep: Allow case insensitive search of fixed-strings\n\nFelipe Contreras (2):\n      format-patch: fix parsing of \"--\" on the command line\n      format-patch: add test for parsing of \"--\"\n\nJeff King (4):\n      diffcore-break: free filespec data as we go\n      diffcore-break: save cnt_data for other phases\n      rerere: don't segfault on failure to open rr-cache\n      reset: improve worktree safety valves\n\nJunio C Hamano (7):\n      diffcore-rename: reduce memory footprint by freeing blob data early\n      Documentation: avoid xmlto input error\n      Protect scripted Porcelains from GREP_OPTIONS insanity\n      Remove dead code from \"git am\"\n      Documentation: xmlto 0.0.18 does not know --stringparam\n      Prepare for 1.6.5.5\n      Git 1.6.5.5\n\nLinus Torvalds (1):\n      Fix diff -B/--dirstat miscounting of newly added contents\n\nLukas Sandström (1):\n      git am/mailinfo: Don't look at in-body headers when rebasing\n\nMatthew Ogilvie (1):\n      core.autocrlf documentation: mention the crlf attribute\n\nMatthieu Moy (4):\n      Expand ~ and ~user in core.excludesfile, commit.template\n      expand_user_path: expand ~ to $HOME, not to the actual homedir.\n      merge-recursive: point the user to commit when file would be overwritten.\n      user-manual: Document that \"git merge\" doesn't like uncommited changes.\n\nNicolas Pitre (1):\n      give priority to progress messages\n\nPhilippe Bruhat (1):\n      Make sure $PERL_PATH is defined when the test suite is run.\n\nRaman Gupta (1):\n      Add branch management for releases to gitworkflows\n\nRamsay Allan Jones (3):\n      Makefile: merge two Cygwin configuration sections into one\n      t9700-perl-git.sh: Fix a test failure on Cygwin\n      git-count-objects: Fix a disk-space under-estimate on Cygwin\n\nRené Scharfe (2):\n      mergetool--lib: simplify guess_merge_tool()\n      archive: clarify description of path parameter\n\nTim Henigan (2):\n      Update 'git remote update' usage string to match man page.\n      git remote: Separate usage strings for subcommands\n\nTodd Zullinger (1):\n      Documentation: Avoid use of xmlto --stringparam\n\nUwe Kleine-König (1):\n      shortlog: respect commit encoding\n"},{"id":"129327","messageId":"loom.20091206T143330-71@post.gmane.org","threadId":"21875","inReplyTo":"7vtyw4il13.fsf@alter.siamese.dyndns.org","subject":"Re: [ANNOUNCE] Git 1.6.5.5","fromName":"Sergio","fromEmail":"sergio.callegari@gmail.com","sentAt":"2009-12-06T13:47:43Z","receivedAt":"2009-12-06T13:47:43Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"sergio.callegari@gmail.com","avatar":"https://gravatar.com/avatar/c98f41317e0422c1e630385de0e3970227b8e5ad15f35ba8586066467cc833bc?d=mp&s=160"},"body":">  * In configuration files, a few variables that name paths can begin with\n>    ~/ and ~username/ and they are expanded as expected. Working on more than one machine (e.g. a\nlaptop A and a desktop B) you might need to periodically push to a server C and\nlike to share the same config on both machines. Having $HOSTNAME expansion,\nwhatever machine you push from, you can say git push C and have the branches go\non remote/A or remote/B automatically on the server.\n\nSergio\n"}]}
