You would have to choke the\nTCP connection elsewhere. Look for QoS options in your operating\nsystem's network setup. I think I have also seen LD_PRELOAD libraries\nthat will limit I/O, but I can't recall the name of any right now.\n\n-Peff\n"},{"id":"129350","messageId":"alpine.DEB.2.00.0912061912180.19656@tvnag.unkk.fr","threadId":"21841","inReplyTo":"20091206144322.GB26440@coredump.intra.peff.net","subject":"Re: Speedlimit at \"git clone\"","fromName":"Daniel Stenberg","fromEmail":"daniel@haxx.se","sentAt":"2009-12-06T18:13:31Z","receivedAt":"2009-12-06T18:13:31Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"daniel@haxx.se","avatar":"https://gravatar.com/avatar/69fdca87edd17cee21ca2e79fc2ff671d644603c3dc27167430f3cd3dbab7ba8?d=mp&s=160"},"body":"On Sun, 6 Dec 2009, Jeff King wrote:\n\n>>> how can i limit the download speed at \"git clone\"?\n>>>\n>> no one any idea?\n>\n> Git has no internal support for doing this.\n\nlibcurl provides such a feature so if the clone is done over HTTP it would be \neasy to offer, but I figure it would also be weird to only provide it over a \nsingle particular transfer method...\n\n-- \n\n / daniel.haxx.se\n"},{"id":"129401","messageId":"2faad3050912070315y7f2bf99dpb2e1f61b55587fe6@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"21841","inReplyTo":"alpine.DEB.2.00.0912061912180.19656@tvnag.unkk.fr","subject":"Re: Speedlimit at \"git clone\"","fromName":"Baz","fromEmail":"brian.ewins@gmail.com","sentAt":"2009-12-07T11:15:00Z","receivedAt":"2009-12-07T11:15:00Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"brian.ewins@gmail.com","avatar":"https://gravatar.com/avatar/9ac03d89105e50a7151e695a1b4b1228151064ec3ac380a73b74ab397796baf7?d=mp&s=160"},"body":"2009/12/6 Daniel Stenberg <daniel@haxx.se>:\n> On Sun, 6 Dec 2009, Jeff King wrote:\n>\n>>>> how can i limit the download speed at \"git clone\"?\n>>>>\n>>> no one any idea?\n>>\n>> Git has no internal support for doing this.\n>\n> libcurl provides such a feature so if the clone is done over HTTP it would\n> be easy to offer, but I figure it would also be weird to only provide it\n> over a single particular transfer method...\n\nThere is always 'trickle'.\nhttp://monkey.org/~marius/pages/?page=trickle\n\nI think this is the preload-based tool Peff was thinking of.
