Hopefully someone will enhance rebase to handle the root commit.\n\nHi,\n\nprobably my approach could help you in the future: When I create a new \nrepo (git init) I firstly create an initial commit with nothing else \nthan an initial commit, i.e.:\n\n$ git init\n$ echo \"initial\" > initial.commit\n$ git add initial.commit\n$ git commit -m \"Initial commit\"\n\nand then secondly\n\n$ git add .\n$ git commit -m \"*REAL* initial commit\"\n\nAfterwards I have a repo with an initial commit that only contains one \nfile (initial.commit) and the \"real\" initial commits thereafter. Maybe \nthat's a solution for you.\n\nCheers,\n Dirk\n"},{"id":"125949","messageId":"b2e43f8f0910261347m38ccb608nb5858ff1dc432b33@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"21360","inReplyTo":"4AE60669.9080402@dirk.my1.cc","subject":"Re: git rebase -i <first_commit_in_repository>","fromName":"Allan Caffee","fromEmail":"allan.caffee@gmail.com","sentAt":"2009-10-26T20:47:38Z","receivedAt":"2009-10-26T20:47:38Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"allan.caffee@gmail.com","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/114759?v=4"},"body":"2009/10/26 Dirk Süsserott <newsletter@dirk.my1.cc>:\n> Am 26.10.2009 19:08 schrieb eschvoca:\n> Hi,\n>\n> probably my approach could help you in the future: When I create a new repo\n> (git init) I firstly create an initial commit with nothing else than an\n> initial commit, i.e.:\n>\n> $ git init\n> $ echo \"initial\" > initial.commit\n> $ git add initial.commit\n> $ git commit -m \"Initial commit\"\n\nI don't think this is actually necessary.
