I wonder if it would be good idea to add support for this format\ndirectly to git-archive... Accordingly to Igor Pavlov:\n\n LZMA2 provides the following advantages over LZMA:\n 1) Better compression ratio for data than can't be compressed.\n It can store such blocks of data in uncompressed form.\n Also it decompresses such data faster.\n 2) Better multithreading support. If you compress big file, LZMA2 can split\n that file to chunks and compress these chunks in multiple threads.\n\nClearly XZ is not very popular yet, but I would not call it as exotic.\nAt least, I expect it to be supported by future distributives.\n\n\nDmitry\n"},{"id":"119335","messageId":"b8bf37780908010738y305b67c7v3c4e8f2190bfdc93@mail.gmail.com","threadId":"20293","inReplyTo":"81b0412b0908010043y51680392r69a0090aba520b13@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re: Add Gitweb support for LZMA compressed snapshots","fromName":"André Goddard Rosa","fromEmail":"andre.goddard@gmail.com","sentAt":"2009-08-01T14:38:57Z","receivedAt":"2009-08-01T14:38:57Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"andre.goddard@gmail.com","avatar":null},"body":"On Sat, Aug 1, 2009 at 4:43 AM, Alex Riesen<raa.lkml@gmail.com> wrote:\n> On Thu, Jul 30, 2009 at 09:44, J.H.<warthog19@eaglescrag.net> wrote:\n>> Don't use 'lzma' the command, use 'xz' ( http://tukaani.org/xz/ ) as it uses\n>\n> The host seems to be down.\n>\n\nYou can clone it here: git://ctrl.tukaani.org/xz.git\n\nBest regards,\nAndre\n"},{"id":"119336","messageId":"87tz0rinrv.fsf@meyering.net","threadId":"20293","inReplyTo":"81b0412b0908010043y51680392r69a0090aba520b13@mail.gmail.com","subject":"Re: Add Gitweb support for LZMA compressed snapshots","fromName":"Jim Meyering","fromEmail":"jim@meyering.net","sentAt":"2009-08-01T14:58:44Z","receivedAt":"2009-08-01T14:58:44Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"jim@meyering.net","avatar":"https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/710630?v=4"},"body":"Alex Riesen wrote:\n> On Thu, Jul 30, 2009 at 09:44, J.H.<warthog19@eaglescrag.net> wrote:\n>> Don't use 'lzma' the command, use 'xz' ( http://tukaani.org/xz/ ) as it uses\n>\n> The host seems to be down.\n>\n>> the lzma2 format which is, by far, preferable to what 'lzma' outputs.  Same\n>> compression (lzma) just different file format.\n>\n> And the whole project seems to be very young (listen on ohloh since 2007).\n> And it is not in current stable distributions.
