Generally, I'd suggest putting \nbuild products in .gitignore and your editor's garbage in exclude. \nFor example:\n\nproject/.gitignore:\n-------------------\n*.o\n*.a\nrandom.tmp\n\nproject/.git/info/exclude:\n--------------------------\n.*.swp\n*~\n/my-todo.txt\n\nIf you add and commit the .gitignore file it will be picked up by \neveryone, while whatever backups, temp files, notes, or whatever you \nuse can be kept private in your exclude file.\n\n~~ Brian\n"},{"id":"115204","messageId":"h00nqe$mj4$1@ger.gmane.org","threadId":"19628","inReplyTo":"E6F58E6B-4ECF-4A55-9249-9A8BBFBDBC24@silverinsanity.com","subject":"Re: \"exclude\" and \".gitignore\" for everyone","fromName":"Nikos Chantziaras","fromEmail":"realnc@arcor.de","sentAt":"2009-06-01T14:16:04Z","receivedAt":"2009-06-01T14:16:04Z","isPatch":false,"sender":{"key":"realnc@arcor.de","avatar":null},"body":"Brian Gernhardt wrote:\n> On Jun 1, 2009, at 9:46 AM, Nikos Chantziaras wrote:\n>> [...]\n>> For example I've put \"*.[oa]\" and \"*~\" in ./git/info/exclude. \n>> However, the rest of the persons doing commits in the public \n>> repository might not have those entries.
