I'm part of a team conducting a survey to understand\nthe perceived benefits and challenges of using a decentralized or\ndistributed version control systems (DVCS) in software development.\nPresuming that most people on this list have used a DVCS :)  we would\nlike to invite all people over 18 years old to participate in our survey\nand share your experiences.  Details on partcipating are below.\nThanks for your time!\n\nBrian.\n\n----------------------------------------------------------------------\nAn increasing number of software projects have or are considering\nswitching their code repositories to a decentralized or distributed\nVCS (DVCS).  There are many such DVCS tools, including git, bzr,\nmercurial, monotone, or bitkeeper.  We are conducting a survey to\nassess the perceived benefits and challenges of using a DVCS.  We\nwould ask that any individuals who use or are comfortable using a\nDVCS for managing the artifacts for a project to please consider\ncompleting the survey.  The survey has several open-ended questions,\nand may take up to 20 minutes to complete.\n\nThe data collected from this study will be used in articles for\npublication in journals and conference proceedings.  The results\nof this study will provide additional knowledge and guidance for\nprojects considering moving to using a DVCS.\n\nThis is an anonymous survey.  Any personal information divulged\nin answering a question will be kept strictly confidential.\n\nThe survey is at:\n\n    http://www.cs.usask.ca/~bsd178/research/dvcs-survey/\n\nPlease feel free to redistribute this to other interested groups.\n\nIf you would like more detail about the survey, or information not\nincluded here, please contact us.\n\n    Brian de Alwis\n    Department of Computer Science\n    University of Saskatchewan\n    brian.de.alwis@usask.ca\n\nThis research has the ethical approval of the Research Ethics Office\nat the University of Saskatchewan. Git User's Surveys were announced on Git homepage\n   (http://git-scm.com) and Git Wiki (http://git.or.cz/gitwiki/)\n\n * News / Announcement sections of software hosting sites, and/or\n   blogs for those hosting sites.  Git User's Surveys were announced\n   on git hosting sites: repo.or.cz, git.kernel.org, Gitorious and\n   GitHub.  You might want to contact admin of BitBucket (Mercurial)\n   and Launchpad (Bazaar), and some commercial hosting sites, to add\n   announcement about survey.\n\n * Blogs related to DVCS or version control in general such as\n   http://www.versioncontrolblog.com/ and/or blogs by maintainers,\n   creators, or people important to given DVCS like Junio C. Hamano or\n   Linus Torvalds for Git, or Mark Shuttleworth for Bazaar (via\n   Ubuntu), or Bram Cohen for Codeville; or perhaps generic\n   programmers blogs such as Eric Sink blog or Coding Horror, or Joel\n   On Software.\n\n * You might also want to either announce from time to time on DVCS\n   related IRC channels (mainly on FreeNode) such as #revctrl, #git,\n   #bazaar, #mercurial, #monotone, #github etc., or ask sysop to add\n   announcement to channel topic (using some kind of URL shortening\n   service, with menmonic short name)\n\n * Git User's Survey 2008 was also announced on Ohloh, open source\n   software metric site.\n\n * You might also want to at least try to add announcement on news\n   sites such as LWN.net or community sites such as Slashdot, Digg or\n   Reddit; the latter might prove difficult...\n\nI hope that this would help.\n-- \nJakub Narebski\nPoland\n"}]}
