You can exclude such files by\n> adding the export-ignore attribute to gitattributes.\n>   \nThanks Lars,\n\nFor anyone else out there with the same problem...\n\nI made a .gitattributes file and it contains only 2 lines:\n.gitignore export-ignore\n.gitattributes export-ignore\n\nI make my release with:\ngit archive --format=zip -9 master > ../release.zip\n(after right-clicking on my repos root folder and selecting \"git bash\", \ni'm on a windoze machine at work)\nthe \"../\" puts the archive next to the repository folder not in it\ne.g. for\nc:\\path\\to\\repos\\\ni get\nc:\\path\\to\\release.zip\n"}]}
