There was a bug where\ngit-status with some configurations would show submodules as untracked\nfiles. It was fixed by 98fa473 (refactor handling of \"other\" files in\nls-files and status, 2008-10-16), which is in v1.6.0.4. Depending on\nyour git version, you may be seeing that bug.\n\nOtherwise, it's hard to say without more information.
